We Are The Wind In The Sails Of The Republican Party! Now We Must Become It's Rudder!

A lot of tea party patriots are rightfully basking in the satisfaction of a major Republican victory. They were the ones that put 'enthusiasm' in the Republican sails. They pushed the GOP to unbelievable voter turnout.

And certainly there is the time for some time for R&R.

But we can't let this storm die! We must start now rebuilding the Republican party from the ground up. We saw too often how the existing status quo leaders have often (but not always) thwarted more traditional grassroots candidates. This cannot continue and now is the time to act.

First, everyone, and I mean every husband, wife, and student must get familiar with how the inner party works. Each county has something called the [insert your county name] Republican Executive Committee. This is usually denoted by acronyms (like in my case) the Orange County Republican Executive Committee or OCREC for short.

Yeah, you're going to have to go to some boring meetings. They last about an hour or so. Some are boring and some are pretty good. Regardless you must come to these to getting voting rights in the official Republican party.

When you've gone to a few of these and expressed a sincere desire to help with the Republican party you become a Precinct Committee Man or Woman. To be fair, you have only a tiny say in the party, but you know what they say about many voices banding together!

Take my advise, membership in the REC's will be a lot more easier (and effective) than standing on a million street corners. The possibilities are truly awesome!

And some of us, if we are really serious about growing AND transforming the party may move from representing precincts, to representing county's, and then even higher positions at the state and national levels. But this all starts at the county and neighborhood level. We need officially recognized Precinct Committee representatives.

And lets put one other commonly held myth to bed. Voting, volunteering for, or in any other way getting into 'third party's' is just a waste of time. In Florida the Libertarian party continues to poll under one half of one percent. Other party's do even worse.

By all means you can discuss theory till you're blue in the face. But running candidates and even more importantly winning elections is the exclusive purview of the Democrat or Republican party. If you are passionate about making a difference (if you are conservative) the Republican party is the only game in town.

This is really no surprise since winning elections is about knocking on doors and getting out the vote. Typical voters, and by typical I mean the ones that 'don't have time for politics'-- these are the folks that just look quickly at candidates and make quick decisions.

Volunteers Needed To Make Calls For Rick Scott

This is going to be a squeaker. My choice is Rick Scott for Governor. The best thing you can do for Rick right now is make phone calls. The technology of the Scott campaign is first rate. You don't have to dial numbers. There is nothing complicated. It's a normal looking phone that is hooked up to a computer (although you'll never see it).

But make no mistake, a real live human making phone calls to voters is huge.

Little Bird Tells Me That Grassroots Republican Mike Yost Might Just Pull Upset On Liberal Democrat Congresswoman Corrine Brown!

If there ever was a congressional race that had all the underpinnings of the upset of the century, it's the outsider Mike Yost running against multi-term career politician Democrat Corrine Brown. It's a district that Republican Party of Florida purposely carved out that would cater to minorities.

Using the word 'gerrymandered' to describe District 3 is an understatement. It somehow runs from Jacksonville to Orlando with some parts so narrow that a cat swishing it's tail would cross opposing boundaries.

The big surprise is that far from being a giveaway to the loony left, never once having a Republican congressman represent it, now it's 'in play.' Even veritable analyst Dick Morris has taken notice, trumpeting Mr. Yost as one of his favorite upsets.

During a recent visit to Orlando on the "Take Back America" tour, Mr. Morris singled out Mike with strong praise for his race. He challenged the Republican Party of Florida and the tea party movement to get behind this "winnable race" and has marked it as one of his "races to watch."

Today this writer helped on a precinct walk that gave a startling glimpse of what might be. After knocking about a hundred doors the proof was there to see. Constituents of Ms. Brown were ready for change. I saw only one forlorn sign, leaning over (to the left of course), proclaiming 'Corrine Brown DELIVERS.'

After a morning's work, there were MANY signs in the yards of Mike Yost supporters!

Afterwords I sat down to talk with a professional Republican campaign field director familiar with the race. He/she must remain anonymous for obvious reasons.

"I've run the numbers on this district and Mike can win. Even though Dem's have a lead in registration, I've looked at national Gallop Polling predicting a low turnout among the Democrat base. I've overlaid that on the district and with an expected high Republican turnout, you have a very different outcome."

When asked why the Republican Party of Florida has not taken much of an interest in this race, the reply was "they're more interested in not making this a profile race. They think that supporting Yost might energize Democrat turnout." Even more astounding was the statement, "They are persona non grata when Mike wins. No one that didn't support us will be invited to the victory party, nor will they be invited up on stage for the victory speech."

Was this just typical bravado in an uphill race? The source replied, "Mike went from having very little money to campaign on, to now (after the Dick Morris pronouncement), having enough to hire a small professional staff. I came down here from (location deleted) and took a pay cut to help stage this upset."

Okay folks, this has got my attention, now how about you?

We grassroots/tea party movement types are always spoiling for a fight against the worst elements in Washington that are destroying our nation. Corrine Brown has taken for granted her district and now we have a chance to catch her napping.

What my source tells me is that all we need is a last minute surge of volunteers to pull the upset of the century! We need live bodies to run the phone banks. We need fearless patriots that aren't afraid of walking into Democrat territory to rouse Republican and Independent voters announcing victory is at hand.

Corrine Brown's slogan is "I deliver". Problem is that even after grabbing over $600 MILLION taxpayer dollars for her district, most of her constituents are still mired in poverty! Mike Yost on the other hand grew up in poverty himself in West Virginia. He learned that government doesn't teach people to stand on their own two feet, they subjugate them with phony programs that perpetuate their low economic outcomes.

Mike Yost learned one more thing in 'Almost Heaven' West Virginia. And that's 'how to beat Democrats.' As a teenager he got interested in a Republican that wanted to run for office. The candidate told him it was a long shot. Fortunately, Mike didn't understand demographics and polling data. But on election night the long shot candidate pulled out a squeaker and Yost got educated.

Here's YOUR challenge and chance to be a part of a race that will be written about in political history books. This will be the upset of the CENTURY!

The More Things Change At RPOF, The More They Stay The Same!

This is a story where everybody is talking, but no one is telling what's REALLY going on.

The first talker is Jim Greer. He rode high on Charlie Crist' shoulders when the governor installed him as the head of the Republican Party of Florida. But that was in 2006, now he's fallen from power along with his benefactor.

So eager was the 'new' RPOF to get the Crist/Greer saga behind them that they had to drag Greer out of their Tallahassee HQ. John Thrasher (who replaced Greer) and a host of big names like incoming Speaker of the Florida House Dean Cannon & incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolis wanted Greer to go quietly.

First there were offers of a sizable 'severance' package for the unpopular Greer. That blew up when the amount became known to other RPOF executives around the state. Mr. Greer said no severance, no quiet resignation.

Then it was discovered that Jim Greer had been taking a commission on all the money raised for the state party. Greer says this was a common practice in fund raising and RPOF knew about it all along.

Things got very confrontational between Greer and RPOF as some 'dirty laundry' began to turn up in the media.

Conflicting reports started surfacing about a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation. Finally, an indictment against Greer was announced in July and the once mighty chairman was led away in handcuffs from his posh Seminole county home.

At the press conference the next day various state attorney's outlined charges of money laundering against Greer. But one question came up that may have set the stage for what was to follow.

Bill McCollum was the State Attorney General and some reporters asked if there wasn't a conflict of interest since Mr. McCollum was a well known RPOF insider and those doing the investigation of Greer answered to the A.G.'s office.

The prosecuting attorney's bristled at the idea that their legal findings might be influenced by McCollum. But they readily agreed that Bill was their boss and they talked to him on a regular basis.

The press conference continued with how much evidence had been gathered against Greer and how eager the state attorney's were to bring this case to trial.

No more has been mentioned about this curious conflict until yesterday when a sudden announcement was made that the trail that was to happen in early fall was postponed until 'sometime' in 2011.

No reason was given for this long postponement. But it does accomplish one very important objective: there will be no opportunity for voters to hear how business is done at RPOF. Greer had promised that he would name names and explode the myths of how he was forced out.

Marco Rubio, Cannon, Haridopolis, and many others have close ties with financial dealings of the state party. It would not do to have this kind of hot testimony coming out right in the middle of campaigning.

So the question must be asked, 'What caused a seemingly open and shut case to be re-scheduled so long into the future.' Also remember that this investigation had been going on for many months and neither side had hinted at a need for more time.

But a careful reading of the story filed by The Orlando Sentinel raises more questions than it answers. Read between the lines of 'both sides agreed to postponement' (that would be the state attorney's office and Greer's high-powered defense lawyer) and you'll see a sudden shift. No longer was the state in a rush to try and punish Greer. And no longer was the defense wanting to clear their client's name. Instead, out of the blue, comes 'let's do this after the election.'

Again, no one is talking, and no media are asking the tough questions, about why this sudden change of strategy. Instead just a brief press release and perfunctory 'no comments.'

We'll have to wait to see what finally does happen.

But the typical outcome from these high profile cases usually runs like this:

1) After many postponements, the public loses interest in what happened a long time ago.

2) Then prosecutors and defense lawyers work out some plea-bargaining.

3) Everyone gets what they want.

Greer will avoid any prison time. John Thrasher get's to keep the party secrets.

Greer is gone with legal stipulations agreeing to not sing like a canary.

In the end there's lots of talk... but it's business as usual when money is involved.

One Narrative That Might Change The Florida Governor Race Between Rick Scott and Alex Sink!

Could this fall election change from the usual blather to some very hard hitting and hard to defend accusations? Alex Sink may have signaled that she will turn Rick Scott's successful 'corruption in Tallahassee' message back against him.

This is fairly tame stuff that may change as the contest heats up. Will she bring up the same pictures of disgraced Republican Party of Florida chairman Jim Greer that Rick Scott used so effectively to beat Bill McCollum?

Only time will tell. The problem for Mr. Scott is that he knows that the insiders control Tallahassee. And since the Republicans have been the majority party for a dozen years, Sink is provided an opportunity to tie Scott to all the scandals that plague the Florida GOP.

This could put the Scott campaign into a defensive posture that he might never recover from.

Naturally, Scott will say 'I'll clean house,' but this may ring hollow to the all important 'independent' voters that are so crucial to winning. They may reason: why not get rid of the party all together?

Keep your eyes peeled for the next salvo from Ms. Sink. We may see if she turns the mirror back on Scott. This could get very ugly very quickly.

Rick Scott's Choice For Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll

Orlando Republicans welcomed Rick Scott and his new pick for Florida Lt. Governor, Jennifer Carroll. Rick gave a short speech which he read from notes. Ms. Carroll then stepped to the podium and spoke without notes. She did an outstanding job, befitting her experience as a multi-term State House Representative.

Obviously race and gender played a role in her selection. But I really liked her presence and warmth which seemed genuine. After talking with other folks there, we all seemed to agree that she was a fantastic choice. Mr. Scott will be well served in giving her as much face-time with voters as possible.

I by chance was approached by The Orlando Sentinel reporter asking me if I thought she would really make much of a difference, "Isn't Lt. Governor largely a ceremonial position?" My reply was that in the past this was true. But look how Vice-president Dick Cheney and Vice-president Joe Biden have played significant supporting roles. Add to this that Rick Scott is used to running large corporations. That means he's learned how to delegate responsibility.

Time will tell, but I think all indicators are pointing to a good ticket for voters to support.

Will Special Interest Money & Old Line Republican Party of Florida Power Compromise Rick Scott?

As the Republican Unity Tour makes it's way across Florida, it might be a good time to raise questions about the future of Mr. Scott's campaign. His ascent to nominee was both costly ($50 million out of his pocket) and shocking to the state GOP establishment.

But even billionaires have self-imposed limits to which they'll gamble their fortunes. It appears now that Mr. Scott has reached his.

He's quoted in media as saying that 'I spent more than I would have liked to' on defeating McCollum. In the next breath he says, "I'm ready to start fund raising for the Republican Party of Florida," with the understanding that lots of that money will be funneled back to his campaign.

To accomplish this the, the traditional establishment of RPOF must be brought in. Which is what happened today in Orlando.

The Unity Tour brought together not only Rick Scott, but Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos, and Florida State House Speaker Dean Cannon. Each congratulated the other without a hint of the rancor that marked the Republican governor's primary.

But here's the rub. If Mr. Scott has indeed reached his limit to self-financing his own campaign, are these show's of 'unity' coming at a price?

Mr. Scott has said publicly that he welcomes lobbyist money as long as they are supportive of his agenda. Fair enough, and we'll have to take him at his word. But hundreds of our Republican state legislators say that they are not influenced at all by lavish spending of corporate special interests that fund their campaigns, yet vote for boondoggles like SunRail, the US Sugar land deal, and others. These same entities make sure to reward helpful incumbents with millions at election time.

And still we have Mr. Scott who says that he is beholden to no one and will use the special interest money for his campaign with no strings attached. Let's hope so. But the biggest reason Scott beat McCollum was the desire by rank and file Republicans to stop the whole circus up in Tallahassee.

Remember this. When Bill McCollum got into trouble RPOF was able to funnel millions in corporate donations to prop up his campaign. Will Scott follow in the footsteps of others that have accepted special interest money? Wait and see!

Hope the old saying that 'he who pays the piper calls the tune,' does not apply here.

Rick Scott And RPOF Begin November Campaign With Lots Of Questions

Now that the contentious primary is over, Rick Scott will see if the Republican Party of Florida wants to back a winner. There are serious questions whether this will just be a token effort or sincere support.

The Orlando Sentinel has a great piece about the back-story of Scott and RPOF (http://j.mp/9ThEFH). The usual cast of characters like powerful money lobbyists that oil the wheels in Tallahassee are understandably concerned. They're used to long term good old boy contacts not some newbie they've, ahem, 'never done business with before.'

And while some insiders are concerned with whether Scott can be bought, others like US Sugar, is looking to cash a $197 check from the state for an overpriced land deal. And the fact that they contributed $100's of thousands of dollars to fund anti-Scott commercials, will certainly make for some awkward moments.

But most intriguing of all might be whether RPOF and Republican state leaders would be happy to not strongly support Scott at all, purposely loosing the election for governor. The reasoning runs that if Scott were to win the governorship, it would strengthen him above the traditional RPOF power structure.

Scott could make wholesale changes in the board of RPOF and spoil state legislator's cozy system with lobbyists. No more trains to nowhere (like SunRail), no more sweetheart land deals (like the US Sugar one), and no more having taxpayers foot the bill for a brand new state prison (that was later given to a private corporation for free).

In order to protect all these 'family secrets' it has been suggested by those in the know, that RPOF may have a lot more to lose if Scott ever moves into the governor's mansion. Therefore a loss is preferable to a win.

To be fair there have been some congratulatory comments emanating from some legislators. A meeting is scheduled in Fort Lauderdale between Scott and party chairman John Thrasher. Wonder if Mr. Thrasher will soften his negative campaign rhetoric against Scott! He better.

But talk is cheap. Let's keep an eye on how Florida GOP executives respond to the 'new guy in town.'

Republicans Counting On Tea Party'er Support To Win Primaries Come Up Short

One lesson coming from last night's Florida primary: if you thought there were legions of tea party voters eager to support 'one of their own' running for office, you are mistaken. In every race with a grassroots candidate in it (speaking statewide here) there is single digit loss after loss. The career politicians and bureaucrats still rule at the ballot box.

But this does not have to be. Many of the mistakes of the tea party movement can be traced to running multiple grassroots candidates in the same race. Congressional District's 8 and 24 in central Florida are great examples of this.

Both had 3-4 conservative/constitutional tea party activists trying to win office for the first time. Pro's know that even winning a primary requires a lot of money AND volunteers. Splitting this up between multiple candidates yields the kind of results we saw last night. Lesson? Next time try and figure out who has the most resources, then persuade weaker candidates to 'get behind a winner'.

Likely these mistakes of underfunding and splitting votes will not be repeated again.

What is more troubling is the apparent lack of tea party voters at the poles. Statewide only about 23% registered voters bothered to go to the polls. In some major Florida counties, turnout was BELOW 20%. Wasn't this supposed to be the year of outraged voters yelling 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!'

Sounds more like a whimper to me!!

Well we live and learn. I've talked to several tea party organizers, activists, and candidates. Most are pretty depressed and I can't blame them. When you give you're all to a race and then see dismal results, you have every right to 'not even want to get out of bed the next morning' as one campaign aide told me.

One tea party leader even told me that "the tea party movement in Florida is dead." Say it ain't so! But the dwindling numbers at various state events indicate otherwise.

There's always November. Another battle is brewing. Time to get to work!

Bill McCollum Continues To Whine That He Didn't Get Office He Deserved

I guess this is how career politicians take their final bow. As the audience boo's at an over-choreographed show, Mr. McCollum steps on stage and blames everyone but himself. Even in his concession speech, he rips Rick Scott with the same mud, oblivious that most people didn't like his summer performance and were actually rooting for the other guy.

But this is what McCollum's part of the Republican party stands for. Shady backroom deals and then closing off any opponents that aren't part of the club.

It took a multi-billionaire to do it, but there will now be open fissures in the Republican Party of Florida. True, our hero does not ride on a white horse, but he vanquished an enemy that we have so long wanted to be broken up.

So there is lots of drama in RPOF. But perhaps this new star will tell a story that rank and file Republicans (and Floridians as a whole) will find more appealing.

One Paragraph Tells It All In Florida's Governor Race

"As the evening wore on, the mood turned grim at McCollum headquarters at a Hilton in Altamonte Springs, just north of Orlando. The candidate and his wife, Ingrid, were sequestered in a suite watching returns. The lobby bar, filled with hopeful Tallahassee lobbyists earlier in the evening, was quiet."

This one paragraph taken from The St. Petersburg Times really speaks volumes about what exactly is ailing the Republican Party of Florida. People have seen the headlines of RPOF corruption recently displayed by last year's chairman being led out in handcuffs. It also entailed a list of dirty tricks that activists don't like.

And those activists are the ones that came to the lightly voted primary. They were saying no to the Tallahassee elite of the GOP. They were saying we want complete change!

Sure, RPOF brought to bear it's full might to crush outsider candidates like they so often have done in the past. This time the activists spoke clearly that they would take a never-tried newcomer to the incumbent that they knew all too well.

Round one is in the books. Let's see if Rick Scott can persuade the rest of the voting populace that he is more than just a protest vote against a corrupt regime.

Could The Florida Race That No One Is Watching Be The Most Important Of All?

Not mentioned much in Florida's big dollar political slug fests, is Florida State Senator John Thrasher against fellow Republican Charles Perniciaro. What makes this more than just a normal primary, is Thrasher's role as the Republican Party of Florida state chairman.

If Mr. Thrasher were to loose his state senate race, would it not also tarnish his standing as the RPOF chair? Many people think so and are wondering how that race is looking.

Through my network of political activists, it appears the race is trending in Mr. Perniciaro's favor. Volunteers knocking on doors in this Jacksonville-based district are reporting 'high negatives' for Mr. Thrasher. Apparently there is still bad blood flowing from when Thrasher bought his way to victory in a highly contested special election.

The person previously holding that senate seat was Jim King who died unexpectedly prompting the special election. That race had four legitimate contenders splitting the vote. Thrasher narrowly won, but did not receive a majority of the votes cast.

One volunteer I spoke with said, "Most people I talked to were definitely voting against Thrasher. Once in a while a homeowner will say they're for Thrasher, but not many. We are also having success with reaching the undecided's."

Mr. Pernciaro is a medical physician, and has had a lot of financial support lending his campaign more than $300,000 dollars and then raising a million dollars more. Mr. Thrasher has accused the doctor of only recently registering Republican. Pernciaro responded by showing that he has only donated to Republicans.

Keep your eyes out tomorrow for this low profile race with big implications.

Was Mike Huckabee Ready To Sell His Endorsement to Rick Scott for $250,000?

I have spoken with a reliable source telling me that a little over a week ago, Mike Huckabee approached the Rick Scott campaign and made overtures that his endorsement could be had for $250,000 dollars.

A heated exchange occurred between Rick Scott and his campaign staff whether to pay-for-play for Huckabee's endorsement. Scott made the final call saying that, 'we're not going to have that kind of a campaign.'

My source is inside the Scott campaign and cannot be disclosed. Suffice to say they are on the payroll.

Once the offer was rejected, Mike Huckabee obliged establishment candidate Bill McCollum with the endorsement.

The Vested Powers Have Spoken: We Control The Election Process/Newcomers Need Not Apply

Judging from the latest polling in the Florida governor's race, it appears that the party insiders have taken the lead. Both Jeff Greene and Rick Scott have been condemned by the power brokers as 'not one of us, so you can't trust them.'

Let's set aside the charges of fraud leveled at these upstart candidates (no one has been indicted, let alone convicted of anything). More often than not, when you hear accusations of bad business practices coming from career politicians you can bet the elected official has a hidden agenda.

The fact of the matter is that you will need to be a multi-billionaire to upend the wishes of the state leaders of Democrats and Republicans. And to amass this much wealth, you're going to have to engage in some ruthless business practices.

The real issues facing voters are quickly fading into which power club is going to run our state. I'm not real comfortable with this and here's why.

The huge amounts of money that the Democrat and Republican party's rely on to mold public opinion come from lobbyists and special interests. This is not good because they are then beholden to the sources of this cash and that obscures the debate on issues.

The answer to this payola scheme is not more laws. We've been writing them for decades and nothing has changed.

What needs to happen is we MUST get involved (read takeover) the Democrat and Republican state party's. That means gaining voting rights for your favored group via their local county executive committees.

Down To The Wire: The Race To Beat Congressman Alan Grayson

Birds are tweeting that the Florida 8th Congressional district race has both narrowed and tightened. Three separate internal polls are showing that Todd Long and Dan Webster are in a statistical dead heat. All the other candidates: Ross Bieling, Dan Fanelli, Patricia Sullivan, Kurt Kelly, Bruce O’Donoghue are far behind in single digits.

This brings up an interesting question for those of us who still haven't voted. Namely that if we vote for any of the other five candidates, we're likely going to be backing a non-winner.

But here's where it get's really complicated. If we assume that Todd Long is the tea party front-runner, and Dan Webster is a career politician, a vote for anyone else would be splitting the tea party vote and give the election to Mr. Webster.

I trust that my sources are correct on the polling data. Now comes decision time. Barring any other late breaking news, I'm going to the Orange County Library and pulling the lever for Todd Long.

While I like all the candidates for differing reasons, I feel comfortable with Todd. As to all this mudslinging about his past drinking problems, I've talked with Todd off and on for the last couple of years in a variety of different situations. Never have I seen him show the slightest bit of inebriation. And his profession of christian faith helping him to reform his character appears genuine.

Let's Get Ready To Rumble: After the August 10 Primaries

I try to remain objective in politics, which is sometimes misunderstood by my friends because I don't mimic the party line. With that in mind, here's my take on the August 10 primaries.

Overall, I think the Democrats aren't going down without a fight. They stuck with Bennett, a strong Obama supporter, against a Democrat outsider. So Dem's are going to feel embolden to fight against the tea party surge.

And speaking of surges, Colorado conservatives really pulled off a surprise victory. Starting as an underdog, Ken Buck beat the Republican insider candidate who was thought to be a shoe-in. Jim DeMint's Senate Conservatives Fund played a huge role.

Bottom line? Money is still important. One billionaire lost (Dem Ted Lamont in Conn. governor) and one won (McMahon for Maryland senate). Is Rick Scott listening?

And still too close to call: Georgia's Governor race. Less then 2500 votes separates the two Republican run-off opponents. One backed by Palin, another backed by Newt. This is less than a 1 percent difference in hundreds of thousands of votes. Like they say, 'every vote counts.'

The Most Important Information Political Activists Will Ever Need!

Over the years I've tried many strategies to influence people's votes. Sign waves? Done 'em (lots of sunburn to prove it). Writing letters? Yep, and it is cool when one get's published. Posting notes to Facebook and emailing friends? Yes, and who can resist the internet!!

But here's the one that has worked for multiple decades and always will: Getting a map of your precinct along with voter records from your local Supervisor of Elections. Armed with these two powerful weapons you'll learn more about politics and political behavior then anywhere else.

Let's start with the basics. On election night we are glued to the screen as the votes role in. They're presented usually with the adage: "With 12 percent of the vote counted, Harry Houdini leads his opponent by 11,000 votes." Most people assume that all the votes cast that day are stacked up in a huge pile and counted one by one. Nothing could be further from the truth (and more misleading).

What really happens starts long before election night and even longer before a candidate even enters the race. It's all based on something called PRECINCTS. These small squares drawn within each county are the building blocks of the candidate's district. To put it another way, before a candidate can win an elected office he must win a plurality of precincts.

Precincts have a long history attached to them which is easily seen from records obtained from the local supervisor of elections. In my precinct (#319 in Orange County Florida) there are about 1000 houses. That's a lot of houses (not to mention most houses contain at least two adults).

But thanks to the meticulous record keeping of the Orange County Supervisor of Elections, I (or more precisely my candidate/chosen political party) can ferret out all sorts of info to help me be more successful in shifting electoral outcomes.

Right off the bat they will tell me which houses to go to that have REGISTERED voters. Would it surprise you to know that about half the adult population is not registered to vote? So all those sign waves, emails, and letters to the editor fall on deaf ears so to speak since 50% of the folks you reach can't vote even if they wanted too. Voter registration is an altogether different subset of what I'm trying to explain and won't be delved into here.

But here is where it really gets interesting. The records from the Orange County Supervisor of Elections span decades. And the particular candidate that I'm volunteering for is interested in only reaching Republicans and those registered Independent. So with this criteria I now have a print out with a map showing me that there are just 327 houses that I need to contact. A much more manageable number!

There are a lot of other data that a campaign might choose to use in precinct walks. For instance when I go to someone's door I would know how often they vote, what party they are registered with, etc. Some software will tell me if they are gun rights supporters, their age, and just about anything else.

Here's the real kicker: how often have you ever wondered 'were those sign-waves really that effective? Was it really useful to attach brochures to cars in Publix parking lots?

Answer: YOU'LL NEVER REALLY KNOW, because elections aren't done in parking lots or on street corners.

Precincts are the only place you will know proof positive whether you're efforts really paid off! That's because the hours you spend leafleting in precincts, knocking on doors in precincts, and making calls into precincts; all can be quantitatively measured on the night of the election.

A simple process of comparing a precinct that has been 'worked' with one that hasn't will teach invaluable lessons. You'll see how 'real' voters (not political junkies and activists) vote. Nowhere else will you get clear feedback on the viability of a given candidate and their message. Nothing affected me more than when a candidate I worked my heart out for still lost despite herculean effort on my part. These are lessons I have learned well and draw upon all the time in political debates.

One more thing about precincts. Professional political consultants and candidates count precincts like Vegas gamblers count cards. They constantly scrutinize trend voting in precincts to determine likely hood of which party and candidate would win. Key: running a Republican in a district composed of trending Democrat precincts is a fool's errand.

I could go on and on about the underlying forces that determine and shape the political landscape.

But here's one tidbit of information. If just one person in each precinct determined that they would knock doors and make phone calls for a chosen candidate or cause, THEY COULD AND WOULD CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF ELECTIONS!

Think about this when you decide how to use your time! Meanwhile, I'm still going to hangout on Facebook (friend me under Nick Egoroff). But now through the 2010 election I'll be volunteering some of my time 'out in the field' to really affect change.

Strange Case Of Hypocrisy In the Florida Orange County Republican Executive Committee

Orange County Republican Executive Committee Chairman Lew Oliver has 'got some 'splainin' to do! He sent out a mailer to central Florida Republicans reminding them that Orange County Mayoral candidate Bill Segal is a hardcore Democrat. The race is non-partisan meaning there are no R's or D's listed next to candidates' names.

Seems reasonable enough. So why the reference to Ricky Ricardo and his oft heard question to hapless wife Lucy?

Simple. While Lew Oliver prattles on about how "Bill Segal = Obama/ACORN" he seems to have forgotten something. His State Committeeman gave the MAXIMUM donation to Bill Segal's election campaign! That's right, Jerry Braley (former Republican Executive Committee Chair and it's current State Committeeman) saw no problem supporting the evil liberal Bill Segal.

One has to wonder about how serious Florida Republicans are about embracing constitutional conservative principles when one of its highest officials gives generously to Democrats.

Lots More To Florida Governor Race Than Meets The Eye

As campaign mudslinging reaches new heights, Florida's two Republican gubernatorial candidates have something else at stake. Should one of them win the November election, they would have tremendous influence over the Republican Party of Florida.

For proof, one must only look at the first thing newly elected Governor Charlie Crist did in 2006: he muscled in a new chairman for day-to-day operations of RPOF. Jim Greer was a little known party insider. His meteoric rise to power and his subsequent fall are well known.

But the story is far from over. While Greer has been indicted for siphoning off some of the money he raised for RPOF, he will soon have the chance to face his accusers.

And as radio commentator Paul Harvey would say, "And now for the rest of the story..." This is the last thing that RPOF want's to hear blaring from radio (or any other media).

Bill McCollum has held many elected offices. He is considered a long time Florida politico that knows where all the skeletons are buried and he's proven his ability to keep his mouth shut.

Perhaps that's why he and legislative leaders Mike Haridopolos & Dean Cannon led the efforts to try and buy off Greer. Why exactly Greer went from party boss to pariah will no doubt be told in court.

But in the meantime RPOF must be very careful to guard the party secrets. That's why longtime insider and lobbyist John Thrasher was rushed into taking Greer's place as chairman. So far, so good.

And with McCollum looking like an easy win, everything seemed fine.

But Rick Scott is looking like the uninvited guest at a private party. Should he win, it will be awfully hard to hide anything from the most powerful elected Republican in the state.

And that friends, is not going to be easily tolerated by insiders that want a nice dark place to conduct business. Big business. Like raking in millions from special interests looking to buy favors from elected officials.

Money is very important to RPOF. Florida election laws place strict limits on the amounts individuals and corporations can give to candidates. Those same rules allow UNLIMITED amounts of special interest money into races as long as it is funneled through a political party.

This has the perverse result of making the party even stronger. And it also shields politicians from being directly linked to any pay-to-play conflict of interests.

The problem with Rick Scott is that he's an outsider that hasn't been tested. Will he keep his mouth shut, or will he go digging in the graveyard? These are questions that will be answered shortly (or not at all IF he does not win)!

Not surprisingly, all the RPOF brass have come out strongly for McCollum. They know that this house of cards is best kept in tack by protecting it from outsiders.

I'm Announcing My Resignation From The Florida TEA Party Political Party

Yogi Berra is quoted as saying, "When you come to a fork in the road, take it." That describes perfectly why I will no longer be serving as Communications Director of the Florida TEA Party.

Over the last year the tea party movement has excited much political activity. In Orlando, the first tea party event was organized by Jason Hoyt in March 2009. Attending this small roadside rally portended much greater things to come.

It was followed by bigger grassroots 'uprisings' leading to Washington, D.C. Politics and more importantly politicians, were served notice that the people had awoken!

Recently I have been involved with helping to support a third party called the Florida TEA Party. They now have candidates that will appear on the Florida November ballot.

While I'm no stranger to controversy, aligning myself with FTP has resulted in much criticism and misunderstanding. As a result I've had to weigh the consequences of staying with this group.

My passion has always been to get people to look beyond slogans and party affiliations. I've endeavored on this blog and on Facebook to engage political exploration on a variety of topics.

For this open communication to continue, I'm sensing that I must excuse myself from direct participation in FTP. My hope is that I can now write and speak about topics that won't leave people wondering if I'm just 'fronting' for FTP.

I would also like to thank the many Facebook posters who have engaged in thoughtful discussions on this topic.

No doubt we have all faced our own forks in the road. The choices are out there, but only time will tell if you've chosen the right path. This choice was not easy; but for me I think it was the best one.

Tempests Within Tea Pots

Today some leaders of some tea party groups decided that they would try to push a number of candidates to 'withdraw' from their respective races. As crazy as it sounds, tea party supporters are condemning grassroots candidates!

The condemnation comes as a result of these candidates wanting to run under the Florida TEA Party banner. Since the Florida Division of Elections recognized TEA a a political party, lots of folks have decided to run under this new third party.

But this has not sat well with some people. These tea party activists have engaged in a relentless campaign to smear and destroy this new political party.

Their reasons boil down to 1) it will split the vote and 2) it is being funded by Democrats. None of these two objections are proven, but there are bigger problems ahead.

When people start to intimidate candidates something has gone terribly wrong. If anyone wants to run for office, they have that free right. Debate the issues and make your choices.

Let's hope that we can return to the importance of platforms and qualifications.

Name calling and rumor-mongering do little except to stir the pot of hatred. Besides, most people prefer their tea with a bit of sweetener to take away the bitterness.

The Tyranny Of The Primary System

Lots of primary's today, and much talk about who will win. Will the tea party favored candidate trounce the GOP old guard candidate? Are incumbents going to be a casualty?

Heady stuff for sure, but no one seems to look at one glaring fact. Namely that primary's traditionally poll only 20 to 30 percent of the electorate. That is to say that most people stay home and just vote in the November general election.

Is it fair that these 'activists' get to determine the choices for others? I would argue no. Sure, we can warn these 'November Only' voters, that they need to be more involved. But the fact has been verified for the last 50 years: Most people simply are only be willing to come to a polling place once a year and no more.

Add to this the understanding that most states have what is termed 'closed primary's'. This means you must be registered either as a Republican or a Democrat to be part of the primary process.

But wait, what about registered Independents? Too bad, they are going to be stuck with limited choices in November. And remember that more than 25 percent of voters refuse to register with either the Democrats or Republicans!

So if we take the 25 percent registered independents who can't take part in the primary and realize that two-thirds of registered Democrats and Republicans won't be voting today, we come up with a very sobering thought. Far from the primary system being the voice of the people it is instead the tyranny of the few!

Let's think about this for a minute. Do we really want our political destiny determined by so few people? I certainly don't.

Again we can argue all day long with neighbors that they must get involved in the primary process. But like it or not, most people are not political junkies and never will be. They want to vote once and that isn't changing any time soon.

Take my friend Abe (actually his real name;-). Abe is quite opinionated and has a general disgust for most politicians. I've made the case to him months ago that he should consider Marco Rubio. And this was long before Marco leaped to prominence.

But Abe is a registered independent and has been for a long time. He typically votes for Republicans (Bush got his vote in 2000 and 2004, as did McCain. But he refuses to register Republican or get involved in primary's. "Too much trouble. I'll just make my choice in November."

This all leads me to a conclusion. I'm quitting the 'can't vote third party or you'll split the vote.' Nope, since the choices offered by the Republican and Democrat party's are nowhere near the choice of the people, I say: Warmly welcome the third party's!

The point is this. Many people are complaining about the government and their elected officials. Perhaps we should start having more choices rather than making politics a game of point-spreads and adorable animal mascots.

Maybe, just maybe, we can send a real message: We have come to take our government back, and we're not just limiting it to your phony two party choices.

RPOF Chair Jim Greer Arrested: Now For The Rest Of The Story!

"A statewide grand jury indicted Greer, 47, of Oviedo, on four counts of grand theft and one count each of money laundering and running an organized scheme to defraud. All are felonies."

That someone in politics is exposed as a crook is hardly news. But this story has much deeper roots than a simple pol caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

Already the spinmeisters are busy at work to camouflage the crime scene. Their hope is that you'll see the headline, shrug, and say 'good riddance to another crooked politician.'

First we'll start with Florida Department of Law Enforcement. They say, 'We're only investigating Jim Greer and we want to thank the RPOF for their helpfulness on this investigation.'

Ah yes, I'm sure that RPOF is is shocked, yes shocked, that money laundering is going on in the Republican party.' Sure you are. After all, raising astronomical amounts of money from corporate interests and then shoveling it to various elected Republican officials is all just in a days' work for this crew.

Current RPOF Chair John Thrasher and his spinners are busy trying to distance themselves from Greer, even hoping to make some political hay by attaching this scandal to Charlie Crist. Greer was handpicked by Gov. Charlie Crist and "you just can't walk away from that," Thrasher is quoted as saying.

Excellent pivot John! Direct people's view over to the hapless former Republican gov hoping to score some political points in the process.

Of course what gentleman John won't bother to mention is that he's a highly paid lobbyist himself, raising tonnes of bucks from corporate interests. What's the saying about 'the pot calling the kettle black'?

The real crime scene at RPOF (and Democrats do the same thing) is more like EVERYONE is hip-deep in money and it is always a scramble to cover up, er, distribute the cash so everyone stays fat, dumb, and happy. And if you've seen pictures of our rotund former chair, this is literally true.

FDLE should really begin an investigation of how much money is sloshing around the two big political party's. But no doubt both the Dem's and Rep's are holding their collective breath hoping that no one starts poking around and finding where the money trail ends.

Thanks for reading this far. Now for the rest of the story.

This is about much more than 'one good politician gone bad.' Remember that Charlie Crist, Jim Greer, and John Thrasher used to all be good friends. They'd work together shaking down and harvesting the money trees that dot Florida's corporate landscape.

Then they would bring home the spoils to incoming House Speaker Republican Dean Cannon, incoming Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos, and hundreds of other elected Republicans. Happily they'd all sit down to divide up the booty.

But as all crooks know, someone always gets greedy and someone feels left out.

What we saw happen today is just the first act of a well known play that will have many more villains and bad guys.

Little birds are whispering to me that there are many more investigations going on. Word is that Cannon, Haridopolos, Rubio, and many others are all under investigation.

And we're not just talking FDLE. The Federal government would also like a crack at these so-called public servants. And when the Fed's get involved watch out.

Paula Dockery Rumors And New Opponent In FL Governor Race...

A little bird told me that Ms. Dockery has cut a TV commercial that will air perhaps this week. No content was revealed, but this is a huge step for the campaign.

Considering that the campaign finance reports are out and that our candidate is not exactly leading the money race, a TV commercial is quite a development. Stay tuned!

I helped leaflet the crowd at the Orlando Tax Day Teaparty rally. I was surprised at the number of people that had heard of Paula. Most of course had not, but were attracted by the colorful brochure.

While the campaign for Florida US Senate is front and center right now, let's not forget that who sits in the Governor's mansion will probably have more impact on our day to day life.

Final development in the governor's race? The sudden entrance of millionaire Rick Scott. He made his money in the health care industry and tags his campaign around running Florida like a business.

Don't know, but I would suspect that Florida Senator Paula Dockery is more qualified, but any news spotlighting the governor race is probably a good thing for us.

Something Is Bothering Me About The Tea Party Movement

As April 15 rolls around two things come to mind.

1) The Federal Income Tax

2) Tax Day Tea Party's

Both have significance. But both are leaving me feeling helpless.

As we gather to rail against the powers that be, I can't help but think that we are missing a great opportunity. When I went to my first tea party rally in March 2009, I definitely saw the potential.

True there were only about 75 people on the side of a busy road in Orlando. But that one was soon followed by a much larger one that had many thousands in attendance.

I hadn't seen that much enthusiasm in quite a while. But more importantly these were crowds turning out with very little organization from the top. Nothing more than a few people exchanging email lists.

And as the year progressed, there were more rallies, meetings, and finally trips to Washington, D.C.

Much good has been accomplished, yet I still feel that we are consigning ourselves to just 'call your congressman' mode.

How I wish that instead of going to feel good events, sometimes traveling for hours and spending hundred's of dollars, we could know what the pro's know.

Namely, if you want power, you run for office. Granted that some brave patriots step forward and begin a campaign for US Congress. This is admirable, but as someone once said, 'First sit down and count the cost.'

Do some investigating and you will find that congressional races routinely cost millions of dollars to win. That is clearly out of our price range or fund raising ability.

But as I have studied the available options, I did what most novices do: Watch what the experts suggest and recommend.

Without exception they have told me, run for local office or your state legislature. This is the equivalent of playing college ball before you go to the pro's.

I've also had the pleasure of talking to many local & state officials. Besides giving me a chance to let them know how I would like them to vote, I've gotten to have many off-the-record conversations.

The subject that I would always broach is 'how did you win your election.' Again without exception they say start small and build a grassroots force.

Here's the bottom line. Either you run for office OR you help someone that is running.

How I wish all the folks traveling to D.C. or spending hours standing in a public park would consider how much impact they would have if that same time and money went towards electing one of our own.

Disgraced Former Chairman Jim Greer Shows What Is Wrong With Republican Party Of Florida

Finally someone has launched a criminal investigation into what was (and probably still is) going on at the highest levels of the RPOF. Some may think that this is just the final chapter of the mysteries surrounding the state party.

Briefly the facts are that Greer through his stooge Executive Director, Delmar Johnson, had cozy arrangements to back-pay each other from campaign contributor's money. Everyone is now running for cover saying they 'alerted' Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement as soon as they discovered what was going on.

But let's take a look at the cast of characters to see who is really culpable.

First we have Bill McCollum. He says he notified FDLE when he heard about it. But wasn't this the same Attorney General McCollum that stood on stage wrapping his arms around Chairman Greer when McCollum announced his candidacy for Governor? This after months of intense speculation that something was going horribly wrong in Tallahassee party headquarters?

Somehow you would think that McCollum would at least look into what was going on. But no, McCollum (and others) insisted that Greer had the complete confidence of the party leadership.

And isn't McCollum supposed to investigate this kind of corruption instead of waiting for a local newspaper to splash it on the front page before he feigns surprise??

The next escape artist was RPOF heavyweight lobbyist John Thrasher. He too says that as soon as he heard that criminal activity might be going on he too went to the proper authorities.

But how many people would expect Thrasher, who's business it is to raise money for the party, to not know what is going on with that money??

Yes, a lot of more questions have been raised than have been answered with this latest revelation.

And here's another one.

Are we to expect that this is the only instance of politicians and bureaucrats raising money for politicos and instead lining their own pockets?

I have consistently been told that Republican (and Democrat) state representatives are directing special interest groups to funnel money into sham privately held corporations. New Message Florida TEA Party Announces 1st 3rd Party Candidate For Congress!

While many so-called experts pontificate to 'just vote Republican', the Florida TEA Party gives the people a real choice.

Today, Peg Dunmire announced in Orlando, FL that she would run as the Florida TEA Party candidate in the 8th Congressional District. This seat is presently held by Democrat Alan Grayson.

Ms. Dunmire had been exploring a run as a Republican, but considered the Republican party dominated by RINO's and found the Florida TEA Party offered a more grassroots oriented base.

"I have been a registered Republican all my life. However, they have drifted from being the party of liberty, the party of Lincoln, the party of small government and a belief in the value of the individual," said Ms. Dunmire.

Fred O'Neal, chairman of the Florida TEA Party, introduced Peg at party headquarters on the 15th floor of the new Plaza North Tower in downtown Orlando. Several local media were there to cover the event.

Ms. Dunmire then gave a short enthusiastic speech outlining her platform of a 'people's voice candidate.' Previously she had been an executive at a major Pittsburgh hospital and a consultant within the health care industry.

The question of running as a third party candidate is dismissed by some. But all Peg is asking is to look at her platform and credentials. Then decide if it isn't time for someone outside the repetitive two party 'I'm better than the other guy' choices of the past.

Calling All Central Florida Patriots

We all know that the national political scene is important. Pictures of the White House and Capital building in Washington, D.C. seem to be the embodiment of power.

But right here in central Florida we have another bastion of government. Matthew Falconer is running for Orange County Mayor because he knows that just like the US President, the executive branch (whether federal or in this case, county) has tremendous power to directly influence your life and freedom.

Did you know that Orange County government controls a THREE BILLION dollar budget? This is money that comes from everyone that lives within the county and benefits from it's services.

Unfortunately we have a county board of commissioners that are nothing more than career politicians that have grown the budget exponentially as compared to the general population. All of Matthew's opponents have voted for astronomical budgets that are now crippling our local economy.

Our answer is a people's candidate that is not beholden to the corporate special interests that control Orlando and Orange county. As a result he will not have the generous donations that can only come from real estate developers, engineering firms, legal attorneys and the panoply of crooks, chiselers, bamboozlers, charlatans and flimflam men that contribute to his opponents.

Mr. Falconer has studied local government and found that a thorough reexamination of the bureaucracy is in order. Combining redundant services at both the county and city levels could save us millions of dollars.

Again don't look to the so-called experts to endorse his ideas and help fund his grassroots education of voters. Nope, they're too busy making money sucking off the government teat.

My friends and fellow patriots, we face a tough road ahead.

We either get behind Matthew Falconer For Orange County Mayor and volunteer a couple of hours a week--or we sit back and let the lobbyists hand us another one of their stooge candidates.

We don't have big bank accounts to pay for slick commercials. They on the other hand will. And come four weeks before the August election, will ply you with lies and deception.

What we DO HAVE is a small but determined army of average folks that say NO MORE to this decade long charade of Republican and Democrat big spenders.

Every Saturday we meet to take our battle for good clean government house-to-house.

Is it easy? No. But we refuse to be lied to again by politicians and bureaucrats promising us jobs & growth if we'll just give taxpayer money to their buddies.

Most would answer Congress, but the answer is not that simple.

Congress does have a huge impact on foreign and domestic policy. And with the onslaught of nationalized health care and deficit spending it is easy to be transfixed on Washington.

But our representatives in Tallahassee merit our attention just as much. This year's budget will approach 70 BILLION dollars. Next stop: a TRILLION dollar yearly budget is within site.

So what's a poor taxpayer to do?

It is vitally important that we start putting teeth into our efforts for not only State Sovereignty but a raft of other issues/taxes.

The best thing about state representatives is that it is so easy to talk to them either face to face or over the phone. Mine knows me by my first name and greets me warmly when ever I'm at tea party events.

Orlando Tea Party Split! No Room For Anyone But Republicans!

Phil Russo, who along with Jason Hoyt and Tom Tillison, organized most of the Orlando tea party events is splitting from the group because Republican influence is becoming too strong. He had tried throughout the last year to maintain the autonomous nature of the group.

The last straw came when Tea Party Patriots Live, the radio show that he helped create, interviewed Adam Lovejoy, the newly elected vice chairman of the local Republican Party. According to Russo it was nothing more than praise for the GOP. No hard questions or criticism of RINO's was voiced.

There are also questions of who would control the movement. Previously Mr. Russo had been free to put out press releases as he saw fit. Then after putting out one that was mildly critical of Marco Rubio, that policy was abruptly changed. From now on Mr. Russo would have to clear the press releases with Hoyt and Tillison.

"There was all of a sudden a feeling that Hoyt was in control," said Russo.

He also pointed to financial concerns. Recently Jason Hoyt flew to Washington, D.C. to attend the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) conference. According to Russo, Hoyt spent money out of the Orlando tea party account without consulting anyone.

"I have to get my press releases cleared, but Jason can spend hundreds of dollars without asking," he said.

The three had also been planning a April 12th Tax Day Tea Party Protest in downtown Orlando. On the stage would only be Republicans. Russo said, "You can now be assured that only Republicans will be at that event."

The main speaker is 20 year incumbent House Minority Leader John Boehner (R). Mr. Boehner has been branded by many as a RINO and representing everything wrong with the GOP.

There have been many questions whether the tea party movement was just an arm of the Republican Party. People have been excited about the potential for tea party's, but it now appears that the leadership has begun to be sucked into the world of political intrigue.

Jason Hoyt and Tom Tillison have become active participants of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee. Hoyt was also tapped to give a speech praising longtime insider Adam Lovejoy when Lovejoy was elected vice chairman of the local party. Hoyt further cemented his support for the GOP when he invited Lovejoy on Tea Party Patriots Live to sing the praises of all things Republican.

The politicians and bureaucrats are hard at work within the tea party movement. Republican National Committee Chairman Micheal Steele holds confidential meetings with tea party 'leaders.' Endless emails from Republican Party operatives masquerading as tea party'ers saying, 'stick with the Republican party.'

Sometimes things can get a little confusing.

But one thing is clear. Americans are demanding change and they are waking up to the lies that both the Democrat and Republican party's are spewing.

The Florida Tea Party is one answer to the question, 'What happens when there is no patriot running in a race.' Then the solution is GO NUCLEAR!

Instead of just voting for Tweedle Dee or Tweedle Dumber vote for the Florida TEA Party candidate!

When paperwork was filed with the Division of Elections to get Florida TEA Party listed as a political party there was a reason. And that reason was to first take the strong appeal of the tea party movement and use it as an opportunity to answer the two party monopoly.

Sure, there are other minor party's. But no one really knows what they stand for. Most people know the tea party movement which is the key.

But FTP is no ordinary political party. It is a hybrid. Because when a freedom-loving candidate is offered from the Dem or Repub party, the Florida TEA Party will stand down in that race.

However, when the Dem's and Repub's offer nothing but big government/big tax candidates the Florida TEA Party stands ready to threaten and if necessary, launch a candidate.

This candidate will clearly say that there is no constitutional patriot--HERE AM I: Pick Me!

Of course the ruling elites will bellow that you have no right! We will answer that you have stolen our rights and we want them back.

So the next time someone says that America is a two party system, tell them the following:

When the two party's agree to give us constitutional obeying candidates, we have no quarrel. But when they try to trick us into believing that only they have the right to run candidates, remind them that our freedom comes from the Constitution NOT from the Republican or Democrat party's.

If truth and logic won't persuade them, tell them that you have a secret weapon. A nuclear weapon. And it will be used.

Ronald Reagan said it best, "Trust, but verify." Implicit in that was the threat of force. We now have it.

Republican Party Of Florida Goes Whistling Past The Graveyard

With the recent election of millionaire lobbyist John Thrasher as the new chair of the Republican Party Of Florida, many GOP'ers are hopeful for change. I think their desire to stem the rebellion is wishful thinking.

It is becoming apparent that money is the most important goal to RPOF. First we had Gov. Charlie Crist break fund raising records (tapping over $6 million from special interests).

Then he appointed a lobbyist (George LeMieux) to hold Florida's Senate seat till he could occupy it.

Now we have Mr. Thrasher beating out the grassroots favorite Sharon Day for state chair. Sources have said that Thrasher's promises to lavish money on county Chair's was enough to flip early support from Day.

Some will say 'If RPOF can raise lots of money...so what?' The problem is that this money won't be coming from Mr. and Mrs. Florida Republican.

It will be coming from corporate interests that will want something in return. That 'something' is beneficial legislation to how business is regulated and taxed in the Sunshine State.

They'll also want nice big fat expensive projects which will benefit--you guessed it--the very same special interests that fill RPOF coffers.

Mr. Thrasher is well acquainted with this process. He was a huge benefactor (and lobbyist) for the Central Florida Commuter Rail Project. This multi-billion dollar boondoggle is going to richly reward those firms that are well connected.

Taxpayers, well, they'll be stuck with the bill for a train to nowhere. Nice work if you can get it.

The prevailing hope for Republicans has been the tea party movement. And yes, they do represent a lot of necessary votes. But any hopes of the Republican party being controlled by the people/grassroots seems rather far fetched.

And one more thing. Let's remember that the one of the drivers of the tea party movement has been their disgust with legislators not listening to them and voting for bailouts.

These bailouts to Wall Street are onerous enough. But bailouts come in all flavors and colors.

Favorites of Mr. Thrasher's lobbying firm are ones with names like 'alternative energy' and 'business development'. They are all code for taxpayer funded; which also means you'll be paying for them.

John Thrasher better whistle a really upbeat tune while he strolls past the graveyard. If those skeletons buried deep in disclosure forms ever rise up...now that would be truly frightening!

As expected, money trumped all other considerations. John Thrasher, millionaire registered lobbyist, was elected State Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.

The election wasn't even close: Thrasher 135, Sharron Day (viewed as the grassroots favorite) 85.

While this was the expected outcome, it is important none the less. We now have yet another indication that the RPOF is just going to be about money.

And we're not talking little $50 or $100 contributions. No sir, this is BIG FAT CORPORATE special interest money. You see, because of campaign finance laws, each candidate state-level candidate can only collect $500 per individual supporter.

The main purpose of RPOF is to act as a repository for the big six and seven figure checks from lobbyists. These million dollar checks go to the party chairman who is able to accept them because of our campaign finance 'reforms'.

Now Mr. 'Money Bags' Thrasher will be able to dole out the cash to his favored RINO Republicans and keep the special interests satisfied with preferential legislation.

Many Republicans had hoped that Sharron Day winning might signal a new, more grassroots oriented party. Today's results speak otherwise.

Now starts the consideration of whether RPOF will EVER become a party of small government and lower taxes.

Why? Because big business (and their well-heeled lobbyists) want a bigger government that doles out bigger taxpayer funded projects!

Mr. and Mrs. Sunshine Republican, I have some bad news for you. Your party has been sold and you are left holding an empty bag.

But not to worry. Mr. Thrasher has reached into his deep pockets and pulled out a couple of coins. Perhaps you can go down to the store and buy that new stuffed elephant you always wanted.

Is The Tea Party Movement Just A Dating Service For The Republican Party?

Been watching a fair amount of coverage of the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) confab being broadcast on CSPAN. Couldn't afford the $750 entrance fee, to say nothing of travel and lodging, but here are some observations.

It seemed to be overflowing with Republican politicians looking for a cheap one night stand with eligible tea party voters. Yes the talk was good, but nary a mention of that pesky matrimonial relationship with big government and higher taxes.

I'm afraid that the seduction of power and prestige is too much for some of the neophyte leaders of the tea party movement.

One word of warning.

If you go to bed with a Republican party panderer that tells you that 'You're the only one I really love,' you might hate yourself in the morning.

Folks, the problem with the Republican party is that it has an incestuous relationship with corporate money and power. They are like the proverbial housewife that forgives the wayward husband that promises to repent of the drinking and fornicating.

I hope that this time it will be different, but history does not indicate it.

Please have the gumption to call these cheats for what they are. The only speaker that I have heard there that did, was from the Club For Growth. No johnny-come-lately he: CFG has a long history going back more than a decade of blasting Republican RINO's.

He reminded us that the Republican party endorsed Arlene Spectre over Pat Tomey, gave us Scarzafava in New York, and endorsed Crist over Rubio. Needless to say he started his speech with, "The Republicans may well win a majority in Congress in 2010. But can we trust them to bring conservative principles with them to Washington? I don't know."

And how about this quote, "The growth of taxes and government under the years of Bush paved the way for the future election of Barack Obama." Very quite applause for that line!

I suggest that we keep a very sharp eye on these wayward philanderer's!

Everett Wilkinson/South Florida Tea Party, Inc. Rejects Compromise: Files Suit Against Florida Tea Party

Below is a reprint of a press release issued today. The undersigned are leaders in various Florida tea party movements. Their statement tries to persuade Everette Wilkinson, a leader of South Florida Tea Party, Inc., to cease and desist from filing a lawsuit against the Florida TEA Party (recognized by the Florida Division of Elections as an official political party).

Wilkinson declined to withdraw the lawsuit which was filed by him and a couple of others on January 19, 2010.

While many of the undersigned do not agree with the Florida TEA Party operating as a political party, all agree that taking this to court is not helpful to the movement. When offered a compromise that would make clear that NO ONE had exclusive rights to the name 'tea party', not only did Wilkinson reject it, he would not even show it to membership.

It is obvious that Mr. Wilkinson is spoiling for a fight. This is all the more evident when the compromise clearly stated Fred O'Neal, Chairman of the Florida TEA Party, agreed not to take legal action over use of the name 'tea party.'

This is a statement by Robin Stublen on the lawsuit...

Over the past two weeks Nick Egoroff and I have been working behind
the scenes to find a compromise between the political party Tea Party
of Florida and several Tea Party groups who had filed a lawsuit
against the political party. While I do not know Nick personally, I
would like to thank him for working with me on this issue. Hopefully,
we can get this behind us and work on slaying dragons.

Disclaimer: I am not a plaintiff in this lawsuit. I did not at the
time and do not now agree with the suit and have always believed we
could work something out. The agreement below proves that this is
actually the case.

The three defendants in the suit have all agreed to the agreement and
are willing to sign a formal written agreement as stated below. Tom
Gaitens and I have attached our names only to show support for this
agreement and believe this is the best course of action. We have no
legal standing.

I have given this to the primary plaintiff in the case (Everett Wilkinson) and have asked
him to forward it to the other plaintiffs. He has refused to forward
it to them and has told me not to speak to any of them.

Below is a late breaking story from the Republican National Committee meeting in Hawaii. Basically the RNC has tried to clearly delineate what a Republican should be supporting.

As mentioned in the article, this is the 'less stringent' 10 point litmus test that was much more restrictive.

My view is that the problems with the Republican party are not just platform oriented. They/we must see new leadership that is not part of the 'good ol' boy network.'

Too many of the leaders of the Republican Party of Florida have held office for DECADES. As any well run business knows, people that stay too long in a position tend to stultify.

And we don't even have to go into an entrenched power structure!

Stay tuned, the election for Chairman (or Chairwoman if Sharon Day should win;-) will give SOME indication where the party is heading.

HONOLULU — The Republican National Committee, pressed to find a way to more clearly distinguish itself from Democrats, on Friday adopted a rule that requires GOP candidates to support the party's platform to obtain financial support.

The resolution, enacted by voice vote with no opposition at the party's winter meeting here, is an alternative to a more stringent proposal that would have required GOP candidates to support 10 policy positions if they wanted party help.

That proposal, sponsored by Indiana RNC member James Bopp and backed by the RNC's more conservative members, was strongly opposed by party Chairman Michael Steele and a group of state party chairs.

The alternative, offered by RNC member Bill Crocker of Texas, does not contain a specific litmus test and thus grants party officials more flexibility in how to vet GOP candidates seeking party support.

It urges leaders of local, state and national Republican parties to "carefully screen" the voting record and positions of Republican candidates that want party backing, and determine whether they "wholeheartedly support the core principles and positions" of the party as laid out in its platform.

The platform is adopted every four years at the party's presidential nomination convention.

The new rule will not prevent support for moderate Republican candidates but will bar funding for those judged to be too far to the left, Crocker said.

"No more Scozzafavas, please. No more Specters, please. No more Chafees, please," Crocker said, referring to Dede Scozzafava, a GOP candidate for a U.S. House seat in New York whom conservatives opposed; U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, who switched his party registration from Republican to Democrat last year, and former U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, a liberal Republican.

Crocker urged the party to "present candidates who will be attractive" to the people who like those in the Tea Party who are really dissatisfied with our political conduct over the past several years."

Bopp withdrew his proposal and supported the alternative, contending it will be more effective because party leaders will have to consider a broader range of issues than just those cited in his resolution.

His proposal would have barred financial help for GOP candidates who disagreed with three or more of 10 policy positions, including support for "market-based" health care reform and climate change policies, and opposition to gun control, government abortion funding and amnesty for illegal immigrants.

There appeared to be some disagreement over the practical effect of Crocker's resolution. Bopp said it requires party leaders to compare GOP candidate positions to the party platform. But Bob Tiernan, the GOP state chairman in Oregon, insisted it is not binding.

"There's nothing mandatory in it," Tiernan said.

Chairman Jim Greer has resigned 'for the good of the Party' which is what every scoundrel says when they are forced out. Now party stalwarts get to choose between Sharon Day and John Thrasher.

Mr. Thrasher, a principle partner in Florida's biggest lobbying firm, is the odds on favorite. Ms. Day is a long time party insider and is viewed as the consensus choice among party officers.

The obvious question is: Why aren't registered Republicans able to cast a vote? After all, with daily headlines of corruption and RINOism run amok, you'd think the grassroots' concerns should be heard!

But an election to lead the Republican Party of Florida? By the rank and file members? That sounds like a democracy!

But of course the real problem is easily discerned.

The RPOF is having so many problems because it long ago lost touch with membership. It is run by an extremely small clique, who's number one goal is to stay in power.

They keep electing and reelecting their own and feign regret that more people don't get involved.

Never mind that county level meetings are rarely publicized. And should some outsider decide to come, they are bored to death with inactivity.

Even now the hoopla is dying down. As one party bureaucrat leaves, another is ready to take their place.

The bright spot is that voters are so enraged at the socialist agenda of Obama, that they are eager to mark the 'R' candidate just for some relief.

Or as one pundit said, 'the Democrat party has invigorated the Republican base.' Meaning not so much that Republicans have brought forth new ideas, but rather the Democrats have alienated a majority of Americans.

Speaking Of Campaign Financial Receipts And The Need For Florida TEA Party

Financial Campaign Receipts were released and they show the typical results. Those candidates that are beholden to corporate special interests did quite well. Grassroots candidates (like tea party Republican candidates) fared poorly.

Professionals and the media look closely at how much a candidate raises and then assume they will be the among the 'winners'. This anointing by virtue of money raised has several important lessons.

When a candidate has lots of money in the bank, it is assumed that they will be able to get their message out. But even more importantly huge campaign funds allow for the candidate to gain 'name recognition.'

Without name recognition it is nearly impossible to win any race. Think about it, who would vote for someone they have never heard of!

The only alternative to this is a dynamic grassroots organization.

Many grassroots candidates assumed that the tea party patriots would change this money equals success equation. Obviously this has yet to happen.

That is why the Florida TEA Party was formed. It is now recognized by the state of Florida Division of Elections and will appear on the ballot, right below the Dem's and Repub's.

Some will wonder if this will not split the conservative vote. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Florida TEA Party will never run against a true conservative. Only a RINO or liberal Democrat.

But here is the real importance of a third party. It is a lasting structure. Candidates will come and go. When they lose their supporters disperse.

The only solution to the big money that dominates elections is a grassroots party that will continue to grow in numbers, no matter who the candidate is.

The Republican party could have built a thriving grassroots movement. But they haven't and won't in the future.

The Republican party has only one goal. Get more money from corporations so that slick media campaigns can be funded. In return corporations and special interests get the legislation that they want!

This corporate mentality, while exciting and lucrative to the big wigs, has little interest to the grassroots! Hence no really large grassroots organizations grow within the Republican party.

Will The Real Tea Party Please Stand Up

Recently much shouting has been going on about the registration of the Florida TEA Party with the FL Division of Elections. Lots of people have bemoaned this as a 'splitting of the conservative vote' and 'hijacking of the tea party name.'

These complaints have been debated extensively. If you want to read the give and take please see the NOTES tab on my profile page.

But I am seeing another disturbing trend that really should be addressed. And that is censorship.

Many of us have been alarmed by statements from the Obama administration about reigning in talk radio. We also complain that the main street media routinely smear and misrepresent grassroots activists on TV.

But now I and others are receiving this same rough treatment from some leaders of the tea party movement.

Specifically the Tea Party Patriots website banned one of the Florida TEA Party members. His offense? Replying to a post that contained inaccuracies about FL TEA Party. The response was not rude in any way, just his side of the story.

I too have had posts deleted from the Florida ResistNet website. No explanation (even though I have asked), just one day they are there and the next they're not.

The really odd thing is that I have recommended both sites as great examples of the tea party movement.

In addition to the obvious forms of censorship stated above, a more subtler type is now in play.

I, along with others have now had every possible half-truth and lie spread about us over the Net. Yes, there was some truth to some of the statements. But I really thought the tea party folks were a little more respectful and cautious about spreading rumors.

And now we come to the most oft heard complaint. That somehow the chairman, Fred O'Neal stole the Tea Party name.

I thought that various people stuck the tea party name on their organization to describe what it was about. It's not like one person dreamed it up. Indeed, people are urged to build up tea party rallies and groups to grow the movement.

The whole reason for this posting, is not to stop debate, but to ask that we do it in a civil manner.

I'm reminded of two early tea party patriots. One was named John Adams and the other was Thomas Jefferson. They had a falling out over opinions. After remaining bitter enemies and rivals for decades, one wrote the other to beg for reconciliation. Draw your own conclusions.

Republican Party Of Florida: Of The Lobbyists, By The Lobbyists, and For The Lobbyists!

Like the old saying goes, 'You can tell a lot about a person by the company that they keep.' The RPOF likes to keep very expensive company.

That's why they love lobbyists so much. They're the only ones that can pay the bills.

First their was current (soon to be ex) Chairman Jim Greer. Though not technically registered as a lobbyist, he knew every corporate telephone number in Florida. And he could both raise and spend LOTS of money.

Then Gov. Crist (no slouch when greenbacks were involved) appointed his number one lobbyist friend George LeMieux as interim US Senator. Wow, a very expensive lobbyist representing Floridians under the big D.C. dome.

Now we are going to be treated to yet ANOTHER lobbyist representing the corporate, er, people's interests. His name is John Thrasher and he heads the richest and most expensive lobbying firm in Florida.

He recently bought, er, won a special election to the Florida State Senate. In addition he'll now be the state chairman of the Florida Republican party.

Such a deal!

Since the Florida Senate only meets for three months out of the year, now he'll have something to do with the other nine! The opportunities to shake the money trees will only be limited by John-John's ingenuity.

Listen up folks. A lot of us Republicans continue with these quaint ideas of 'taking over the Republican Party.' The sad truth is that we both came late to the ball AND inappropriately dressed.

The party bureaucrats have no intention of allowing us conservative activists into this celebration of wealth and power.

But take heart. We have a brand new party that is for those that care more about principle then alphabet letters.

FL Republican Chairman Greer Out! Replacement Is Highest Paid Lobbyist In Tallahassee

In an announcement that was not a surprise to those that watch such things, FL Republican Chairman Jim Greer was thrown under the bus. Not to worry, the bureaucrats at Republican Party of Florida have the party still under their thumb.

His replacement is none other than current FL State Sen. John Thrasher. He is aptly named since his previous job was as the HIGHEST paid lobbyist in Florida. He cleared $2.7 million a year as a hired gun for the usual bunch of special interests that need favorable legislation.

This is the problem with the Republican Party. While they talk a good game about limited government and open participation, all important decisions will be made by party bosses. And the most important decision will be 'How Do We Shake Down Corporations For Big Donations.'

If this is all people care about for the GOP, they will be well served by Mr. Thrasher.

If however the grassroots have any ideas about 'taking over the party and returning to constitutional/conservative principles' they have their answer. Sure, party bosses will speak eloquently about freedom and winning Republican majorities.

But when push comes to shove, YOU'LL BE THE ONE SHOVED! That's because someone has got to pay for the sweetheart deals that are handed over to companies like CSX railroad (what a coincidence: they're Thrasher clients!).

Mr. Thrasher made sure that Florida taxpayers coughed up not $1 million per mile for CSX owned tracks. Nope, Thrasher got $10 million per mile for the rail barons. That's the highest per mile cost for similar projects. Good work John.

But this is how things are done in the big city. All you tea party folks can just go wave your signs. The fat cats will call you when they need you.

So the Republican Party of Florida is about to have a special meeting to oust it's corrupt state chairman Jim Greer. It seems this removal process is getting serious because the big fundraisers and assorted 'bag men' are joining in the chorus. But like one of my favorite rock anthem's goes, "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...Don't get fooled again" (thanks Pete Townsend of the Who).

Listen up folks. You may think getting rid of one bad apple is going to allow us to make applesauce, but you are mistaken. The Republican party long ago sold out it's principles. And they didn't do it because of one bad guy.

They did it because they are owned by the corporate special interests. They'll give away billions to fat cat companies in the guise of 'helping to create high paying jobs.' All the while weeping that they cut spending to the bone.

They'll grow the size of government to unheard of levels. All the while confusing us with lip service about Democrats robbing your wallet.

Here in Florida, the population over the last decade only grew by a few percent. The budget for the state and local governments grew exponentially. And this was done by Republican control of the Governor, state legislature, and many local governments.

Why not stop DREAMING of a reformed Republican party, and join with thousands of other tea party patriots and start building our permanent foundation.

And this new party has really got the Republican bureaucrats really concerned. They know that if real constitutional/conservative government principles are put on the ballot, the GOP will loose all it's corporate sponsors.

If the tea party rallies taught us anything, it's that people are disgusted in the two party system. They want real change and they don't mean just going back to voting Republican. Real grassroots candidates are coming forward to run for office under the Florida TEA Party banner.

In a little less than two weeks the Florida TEA Party has picked up 731 members on Facebook. Many more at our http://www.floridateaparty.us/ website.

And boy, you should hear the moaning from the Republican Party apologists! You can't leave us! Where will you go? Sounds like the classic battered wife syndrome;-)

But in all seriousness we should take pride that we have decided to stand on principle and not party affiliation. But perhaps we should explain our new found freedom...

The Republican party means many things to many people. Unfortunately once we see who owns the name, hopes and wishes vanish. Because of campaign finance reforms, the Republican Party of Florida is the only place that corporations can deposit large checks.

This means that while various bureaucrats and politicians promise to remain faithful conservatives, they have been bought off like, ahem, W****'s!

This marriage is a sham, and all the apologies and "I'll do better's" should be recognized as lies.

Yet, there will be some that want to hang around hoping that this time it will be different. No problem. Keep your Republican Party voter registration. You can still fully participate in the TEA Party.

Make no mistake. The Florida TEA Party is fully recognized by the Florida Division of Elections. We will be on the November 2010 ballot right under the Rep's and Dem's.

We already have been contacted by many citizen-patriots that want to run under the TEA Party banner. More power to them and here's hoping that more will come.

Our statewide campaign will basically say, 'If you see a name with the TEA Party name next to it--Rest assured this is not some career politician!'

No more crazy-quilt patchwork of districts. This will be a blanket that will cover the whole state!

We will oppose any RINO or Socialist that dares to tread on the US Constitution. This also includes the Florida Constitution, so we will have state house and senate candidates, too.

For decades and decades, we all have watched the Republican party be controlled by very powerful forces. The corporate special interests have flooded the campaign war chests with billions of dollars. Do you really think that 'demanding' change via the telephone and emails is going to counter balance the million dollar checks to candidates?

Oh, sure, you'll occasionally get the temporary victory, but it will be short lived. Every politician knows that they merely have to wait out us activists and we'll get tired and go home. They've been playing this game for a lot longer than most of us have been alive.

The sad fact is that the Republican Party doesn't want an active grassroots organization. If they did, they would have built one long ago.

Look at the savage treatment Sarah Palin receives not only from the media, but from her own party. In her book she outlines not only the lack of support from Republican party leadership, but their active behind the scenes scuttling of her campaign (gubernatorial and VP).

Certainly there will be the true constitutional conservative that will somehow run the gauntlet of barriers to a successful election within the GOP. But that should not fool us into thinking that this will be the norm and not the exception.

What we should realize is that third parties are not in and of themselves wrong. To say that would diminish the freedom that we all are fighting for.

Today we see and absolute hunger by citizens for an alternative to politicians that merely talk about the Constitution, but when push comes to shove, answer to the ones footing the bill.

If we learn anything from the Tea Party movement, it is that patriotism is found outside the current system. To simply say that now we must go back to the party's that failed us, is missing a great opportunity.

1). It is easier to get people elected through the two party primary system. This has changed because so many people have left the Dem and Rep party's and registered independent. Those registering Independent in Florida are the fastest growing segment according to FL Division of Elections. They are leaving the established party because it no longer represents them.

2). From the above, we shall see that MANY people are left out of any candidate selection process. Their choices are now limited to the same two party choices that caused them to leave in the first place. That's why we registered Florida TEA Party with FL Division of Elections. It will appear on the ballot next to the Dem's & Rep's.

3). The Florida TEA Party party will now be a obvious choice for disaffected conservative Republicans AND the disaffected Independents that have already LEFT the GOP. This is why it is futile for many constitutional/conservatives to try and run in Republican primary's. Much of their support has already left the party.

4). Finally, since Rasmussen Polls has shown overwhelming support for the TEA Party in a three way race, this is an idea who's time has come.

Breaking News: Will Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer Resign?

There are numerous media reports of Greer's tenure as chairman coming to a rather quick end. Some say that it will come down to whether Gov. Crist can afford to hold on to Greer with the US Senate race in doubt. Others point to Greer's manipulation of the county party structures. Greer's spending of party funds is also in question.

No matter what the outcome or reasons, we must not be fooled into thinking that this is just one bad apple spoiling the bunch. The process that caused the rotting of the Republican Party of Florida goes much deeper.

It begins with a bureaucracy that has grown fat depending on HUGE donations from special interests. This saps the grassroots as they see their concerns sidelined by the Party in order to placate corporate donors.

Grassroots activists really do believe in smaller government and lower taxes. It's just that Greer, Crist, and other bigwigs must first cater to their paymasters before they listen to us.

By all means we should contact every party activist we know and alert them to this dire situation. But lets remember it neither started nor will end with Greer's appointment and possible resignation.

Great News! You will now be able to vote for actual TEA Party candidates in the 2010 election. What's further, you can now contemplate running for political office yourself!

Florida TEA Party has been registered as an official political party with the Division of Elections in Tallahassee. This means that just like you see Republican and Democrat next to a candidate's name, you'll now see TEA Party as well!

This is a bold step that is required in these times. The excitement and energy that has exploded on the scene can now be harnessed in a very constructive way.

We know that it is important to protest, wave signs, and call our elected representatives. But we have done that and yet most of our elected representatives still don't listen.

The next step is to run actual citizen-patriot candidates as opposed to career politicians. The Founding Fathers never envisioned life-time appointments to elected office that most Republican and Democrat candidates now have.

Most of you know that the political process has been dominated by the big two parties. We have been told by 'experts' that we must work within this structure. The answer? "So how has that two party system been working out for you lately??"

Others espouse that if we could just get rid of the 'few bad apples' or 'get more constitutionally mind' people to run the party's, we'd see some change.' Friends, let me remind you: THEY'VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR DECADES!

The basic premise of the Florida TEA Party will be that Constitutional based candidates will only run when neither party offers a conservative alternative.

At this time we are also not asking you to change your current party affiliation. This will allow you to take part in your original party's primary. For example, many Republicans want to be able to vote for Marco Rubio over Charlie Crist.

Florida TEA Party will welcome you no matter what your party registration. Just remember that this country was founded on principles in the US Constitution.

Soon, a convention will convene in Orlando, Fl. where we will debate the platform and elect officers of this new party. Please be patient and allow the process to work.

The box on Facebook says 'What's On Your Mind.' In truth, I have never been more ashamed of the Republican Party. Specifically the Republican Party Of Florida. National talk shows, national conservatives, and various conservatives say that we can not form third party's. With today's scandalous vote in the Florida Special Legislative session to give BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to CSX railroad and other special interests, I SAY BUNK! Actually I have stronger words but they are not suitable for a public forum. Whatever you think of commuter rail is secondary. What we are seeing is the wholesale betrayl of conservative principles. You know it and I know it. The Republican Party of Florida has been rotting from the inside out and this is just the latest example. I promise you this. Another party will rise and displace these pretenders. The conservative cause is not dead. It has just been stolen by those that cherish money more than principle.

As the tea party movement continues on the path of restoring the Republic, many have asked "what is the next step?" With so much enthusiasm and involvement with the many different offshoots of the movement, the time has come to encourage and permit tea party activists to become directly involved in the political arena.

As we watched with great interest, Tea Party/Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman nearly won a congressional seat in NY23, having first destroyed the official party boss candidate and forced her to withdraw.

We have the opportunity to, in some cases, run our own candidates as nominees of the officially registered TEA PARTY here in Florida.

The TEA PARTY is your party. Like you, I have watched the two parties become almost indistinguishable as financial special interests seek to control the leadership of both major parties.

With a twenty-year record of fighting the causes of no new taxes; limited government and First Amendment battles, I have officially registered the TEA PARTY here in Florida. With that registration, we have the ability to run candidates in the general election as TEA PARTY candidates; choose to stay out of a specific race or lend our support to one of the nominees of the other parties.

Early Results of November 3rd Election Night

Looks like Republican's have won the two governor's races. The Conservative Party candidate Hoffman running for congress in NY Dist. 23 is trailing but it's early. Now have the two governor races proven anything? I'd say marginally. The newly elected governors are not what I would call hard line conservatives. A Hoffman win will probably tell more about how well a right wing/tea party is accepted in a Republican leaning district.

Heard a good line that 'going to congress is like a university campus.' The point being that congressional representatives tend to like the atmosphere of being in Washington. I realized that they were/are a lot like I was when I left home to enter college. Yeah, you have to once and a while put up with pesky questions from the folks back home, but once on campus you realize that this has got to be the coolest experience yet. That's why congressmen and women never want to go home. They want to keep feeling that power. And once they get to D.C. and can raise money from special interests, there is little to stop them from returning again and again. Sort of like getting an endless stream of 'financial aid.' I may have just talked myself into supporting term limits.

What satisfaction we can all take in seeing such great support for Florida State Sovereignty. So many of us have forwarded and emailed friends to join this great project. Keep it up! Use the INVITE FRIENDS button on the site.

But we must understand that the position we are taking runs counter to the powers that be. They would like nothing more than to keep 'everything as it is.' Unfortunately this is becoming impossible with the economy and the resentment of citizens towards Washington's abuses.

We must hold ever more vigilant to the Constitution. We must also realize that politicians and bureaucrats (even at the state level) will find ways to slow the implementation of the 10th Amendment. Do not listen to them. We have had a CENTURY of growing big government. Now is the time for people to rise up and say enough!

Let me say it again. Do Not Trust Politicians further than you can keep a watchful eye on them. Independent groups like this are the best way to advance our cause.

Taking On The Republican Party Of Florida

Recent developments in the Marco Rubio campaign raising a million dollars during the last quarter, sure give us hope. The guy that everyone dismissed is really catching fire. And make no mistake, a Rubio win in the August primary will seal Chairman Greer's fate.

What we want is free and open elections in the Republican Party of Florida. Greer and his cronies roll their eyes at the thought of Republicans being given choices.

But just like upstart Rubio telling fat cats that principles do matter, we must continue this trend. Right now there are grassroots candidates trying to break the barrier of elected politics. Without special interest money and incumbency to help them, we have a decision to make.

Do we just shrug our shoulders and say, 'We have to defeat Democrats' and turn a blind eye towards our citizen candidates?

I say HELL NO! I'm pitching my tent on the idea that Greer and everything professional politics stands for is dead. The Tea Party proved that without our so-called leaders we can do just fine.

Remember, the Republican National Committee, RPOF, and all the other alphabet soup groups did jack squat to stop Obama-care. It was only after we rose up and demanded action that our party's bureaucrats and elected officials realized it was safe to come out.

If this is leadership, then show me the exit, because this battle will be over soon enough.

But wait, what's this? A bunch of people are rebelling and parish the thought, winning against the odds?

Right now I urge all of us to take a second look at who we will support in this primary season. Click on your supervisor of elections website. Find those conservative candidates that on a wing and a prayer have said ENOUGH with party picked career politicians.

I will publicly state that the Republican Party of Florida and many of it's corresponding county Republican Executive Committees have no interest in allowing new candidates to have a chance at getting elected. I have seen to many examples of candidates getting 'the call' from their Republican County Chairman or state level officers telling them that, 'This is not the race for you.' They understood all too clearly that they would receive little help from the party.

And what Jim Greer has done with meddling in countless races is just shameful.

If the Florida Republican Party wanted a strong dynamic on-going grassroots network they would have built one years ago. As it is the county structures are weak and kept this way for a variety of reasons and in a variety of ways.

I believe this sad state of affairs pervades the Republican Party of Florida because leadership is more interested in acquiring large amounts of money to perpetuate their control of the party. A large party would be an obstacle to Greer and his cronies maintaining that control.

I had a major insight into how difficult it is for new candidates to run for office. One told of how he went to already elected Republicans asking for pointers on how to get elected. The politician 'really gave me the cold shoulder.' Another person running the first time was making a critical error on their ballot petition form. No one in the local county Republican party structure was giving any advise and in fact was discouraging perspective candidates from running. The Republican bureaucrats only want 'their guys to run.' I want to work to create a structure to help Florida candidates.

WOW: We Just Hit 600 Members For Restore Republican Party Of Florida!

This shows that Florida Republicans are very serious about restoring the core values. We understand that something has gone seriously wrong with RPOF. It's not the rank and file members; it's mostly Jim Greer who thinks this is a party that is run for his own personal satisfaction.

As the primaries grow closer we continue to see slights against grassroots Republicans running against hand picked party choices. Carey Baker who is running for Agriculture Commissioner continues to receive the short end of the stick compared to Adam Putnam for the same office. And we don't need to recount the favoritism for Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio.

All over the state, there are numerous examples of party interference. In my own county, (Orange), RPOF blasted out an email lauding our County Commissioner over a legitimate (read well funded), grassroots candidate. Both are running for an 'open' Mayoral position.

The dangerous trend here is obvious. Chairman Jim Greer and his cronies continue to think they can best pick the candidates. Primaries, in their opinions, are just too expensive.

Most glaring of all is the Florida Governor's race. Even though Greer anointed conservative Bill McCollum, the lack of a primary race is actually stifling support. Who cares about a one person race? Another missed opportunity for bringing badly needed publicity to Republican values.

Restoring the RPOF is not an easy or quick task. But by the phenomenal growth of this group, we see that many are desirous of reform.

Public Option for Socialist Obama Care Fails In Senate Committee And What It Means For Florida

But what doe this mean for Florida Patriots? It means that if Obama care is going to be stopped, it's going to have to be done in the US Senate. And who does Florida have in the Senate? None other than two of the weakest sisters in that den of vipers. More importantly one of the senators that voted no today was Bill Nelson. This means that pressure will be unrelenting to get Nelson to 'come around.'

I'm on the email list of Moveon.org and they know that Nelson needs to feel heat from the left. We must answer that with even more fire from the right. I've studied politics for a long time. What is very likely to happen is that Nelson will cave to pressure and finally succumb to some form of the public option. That way he will be able to say in 2012 when he is up for election, "I did oppose socialist health care before I voted for it." But if we put on an unrelenting campaign we could just keep him from the dark side.

This is going to require a LOT of phone calls. A LOT of emails. Begin by reminding him that we made life so unbearable for Sen. Martinez that he couldn't even finish his first term! Please, don't leave this to someone else. The only reason ANY of the weak senators are reluctant to support the public option is because of the INTENSE pressure of the tea party movement.

I've read with amusement that county after county Republican Executive Committee has Marco Rubio winning over Charlie Crist for US Senate. Under normal circumstances you would expect the leadership at RPOF to reflect that preference. But nothing is normal at RPOF.

Instead we have Chairman Jim Greer running a Soviet style Politburo deciding what candidates will be given the thumbs up to run. Then we as his loyal servants goosestep past the Kremlin, er Tallahassee, HQ and he waves to us.

I don't know about you, but I think it is time to do a little house cleaning. RPOF bubbles with enthusiasm about bright outlooks for 2010. But for what kind of Republican candidates?? Ones that we know will support Democrat initiatives to enlarge the government? Ones like our own sad sack Gov. Crist??

We don't need reminding that sending our contributions to RPOF HQ is like sending money to the enemy. But what we do need to remember is that Greer and company could care less whether we send up a $100 or $10. That's chump change (we of course being the 'chumps' ;-).

The big money comes from big corporations. Companies like US Sugar, AT&T, etc. can write UNLIMITED amounts to the party directly. And they know that buying the party leadership is tantamount to buying the party itself.

Greer and Crist are happy to play this game as long as there is more money coming in. What we must do is regain control of a party that rightfully belongs to us as members.

What this is telling me is that Florida is absolutely behind restoring the 10th Amendment. Once voters are made aware of the freedom that is restored by state sovereignty, they naturally gravitate towards it. Even in this day of jets and instant communication there is nothing like getting eyeball to eyeball with your elected officials. And this will only happen when the relatively few elected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. are supplanted by the 100's of elected officials in Tallahassee.

Will Florida State Sovereignty be the silver bullet that changes everything and makes government of the people, by the people, and for the people? Not exactly. But we are proving that through Tea Party's and grassroots activism that America and Florida in particular are not satisfied with politics as usual.

March On Washington, D.C. And The Republican Party Of Florida

Although I wasn't there, I could tell from watching CSPAN live coverage that something very special happened today. I just heard from one of the organizers that D.C. Metro Police estimated the crowd at 1.2 million people.

Many different groups were given the opportunity to address the crowds. One of my favorite senators Jim DeMint gave a very inspiring speech as well.

This is where Republican Party Of Florida comes in. Little was done by RPOF to either promote this event or express solidarity with it. Today we saw that conservatism is far from dead. Yet RPOF through Greer and Charlie Crist keep telling us that we can't win unless we become more like Democrats.

Let's remember that today we saw massive proof that the politics of limited government, lower taxes & personal responsibility are alive and well.

Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer Continues Party Purge

Chairman Greer decisively squashed dissent within the Republican Party of Florida when he banished 6 party leaders for up to four years. Most had been Republicans all their adult life with some being members of RPOF for over 20 years.

Will Pitts was Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida. His group had brought in 1000’s of new younger members to RPOF. A well-known builder in the Jacksonville area and owner WG Pitts Company was suspended for 2 years.

Doug Guetzloe, a successful political consultant in the Orlando area, and lifelong Republican was suspended for 13 months and given 1 year probation.

Jason Steele, Chairman of the Brevard County Republican Executive Committee was given a 12 month probation period. Reached by phone he said, “that if the state party hoped to "stifle" his activity with the official punishment, "that's just not going to happen."

These and many other suspensions, probations, say loudly that the Republican Party of Florida is not a big tent, but rather a small clique of narrow-minded tyrants. Dissent is not to be tolerated.

State Party Chairman Jim Greer is unfit to lead and fears the party rank and file. Recent revelations that he lives the high life paid for by RPOF credit cards is causing quite a stir among members.

The bottom line is that if we want the Republican Party of Florida to reflect our common sense values, we are going to have to demand full accountability from our leaders. Their tactics of intimidation and expulsion will need to be fought every step of the way.

My Health Care Townhall Meeting Experience!

Got word that tonight three of my state representatives would be having a town hall meeting. Got the Altamonte Springs Civic Center 10 minutes before the event began. Already the parking lot was full and once inside snapped a couple pic's off my Iphone.

I counted about 300 people in attendance. The representatives were all Republicans so this ensured a mostly friendly audience. Each made statements that they were going to introduce legislation that would protect Floridians from being forced into a national health care program. This was in conjunction with their efforts to also push a 10th Amendment/State Sovereignty resolution through the Florida legislature.

One of the first statements that I found interesting was that 'nowhere in the US Constitution does it say that federal government was responsible for providing health care.' This got a resounding applause! Until someone yelled out, 'When have we ever heard of a politician respecting the Constitution.' This also got an even bigger applause and Fl. State Sen. Cary Baker started to roll his eyes and grimaced. So not a easy crowd.

Question and Answer period followed. Someone asked if the legislature even passed this how would Florida government respond when the fed's said no way. State House Rep. Scott Plakon replied that it would of course have to be worked out through the courts. Good to see that we are getting ready for a court battle.

Several in the audience said how the countries that they emigrated from had terrible socialized health care. Germany, Cuba, Brittan, and Argentina were all criticized. Plakon related a particularly horrendous story from the UK where someone was so desperate for an appointment that they had to take their daughter to a veterinarian!

One doctor and one registered nurse made statements in support of Obama care. They were interrupted a few times, until the elected officials and even some in the audience asked that we respect free speech. Fortunately there was a doctor and another nurse that strongly disagreed with socialized medicine.

I liked the emphasis put on letting the states decide how to do health care. All the elected officials asked that we go to the Florida Legislature website and contact our State House and State Senate representatives and ask them to support House Joint Resolution 37. Charlie Crist Decides To Stick It In Your Eye

Since Governor Crist has appointed George LeMieux to the US Senate, I've given a lot of thought to what it portends for our party's future. Crist had an abundance of political candidates to choose from. Instead he picked his old friend who has never been elected to public office.

I think it was a bold move that essentially said, 'I don't care what conventional wisdom says.' As we all know Crist' number one priority is to win the US Senate race next year. This will require money and as few obstacles as possible. Putting LeMieux in as a seat warmer demonstrated that Crist is creating an almost impenetrable wall around himself.

LeMieux is a very important man in Charlie's world. He is called the Maestro for running the Crist 2006 gubernatorial campaign. He now runs one of the state's most high priced law firms with big corporate clients. Some have alleged that LeMieux should be registered as a lobbyist since they say he trades on his influence with Governor Crist.

Maybe he and Crist have decided that they have shaken down all the CEO's and corporate fat cats in Florida. What better place to move on to then the national scene. There's LOTS more money there to add to Charlie's four million dollar war chest. Crist can now hit national donors with the added oomph of having his man already on the inside of the Senate!

Say what you will about Charlie, but he sure ain't dumb. My question is this: With all this money coming in and more on the way, is Charlie looking beyond the Senate? Perhaps it's time to launch the Draft Charlie Crist For President 2012??

So You Think You Know State Sovereignty!?

I just posted this email to the Florida State Sovereignty page that I administer.

Congratulations are in order. It looks as if 2010 will indeed be the year that the Florida State Legislature will consider and probably pass a State Sovereignty amendment. We as a Facebook page also have achieved the milestone of surpassing 1500 members in less than two and half months.

Most of us think that State Sovereignty is just a way to keep the Fed’s in Washington away from our favorite constitutional liberties. Whether it be the 2nd Amendment, taxes, or federally mandated health care (all of which will be included in the state sovereignty bill heading to Tallahassee), we hope to regain some of our freedoms.

But I’d like to recommend to you a most interesting book that coincidentally devotes a great deal of time to examining this issue. It’s called Democracy in America and was written by Alexis De Tocqueville. This work was originally published in 1835 and has become one of the all time classics of political theory. The author was a young Frenchman (25 years old!) that came to America to try to explain to Europe what democracy was like.

I have not finished this mammoth book, but already I’m really excited about some observations. De Tocqueville saw that the basic structure of the new United States of America rested on INDIVIDUAL states. What’s more he saw the incredible freedom that began at the county and municipal level. It was in these smaller and smaller venues that people’s rights were protected and honored.

I’ll be posting more of what I learn from this great historical book. Suffice it to say that state sovereignty may just hold many keys to correcting today’s governmental problems.

Most of us are mesmerized by the wholesale destruction of our country emanating from Washington, D.C. But I want to suggest another equally important venue helping to crush our liberty.

The Republican Party of Florida has been systematically watching for any signs of dissent within their ranks. Recently, about a dozen members of RPOF were summoned to the star chamber, er, Grievance Committee to see why they should not be thrown out. Many will take this as just an unlucky draw of the cards for a few, while the rest shrug their shoulders and say 'I guess I dodged that bullet.'

But let me warn you of something. We have it on very good authority (read inside source) that dozens more complaints are sitting on RPOF Chairman Jim Greer's desk awaiting action. This is because the intent of RPOF is to silence and/or intimidate ALL members to sit down and shut up. Or else!

Guys we must start learning how the levers of power are worked. I still follow the national scene, but RPOF is very vulnerable right now. There are investigations into RPOF by the Florida Division of Law Enforcement and various State Attorney's offices on exactly where the MONEY is going and who is benefiting from it. While the normally padlocked doors of RPOF are being pried open, we must step right up and say we too are interested.

I and others will be continuing to fight against the statewide purge that was begun last week. A very experienced civil liberties attorney, Fred O'Neil. has been retained to fight for our rights. We will need everyone to stay informed and supportive. After all, you may be the next head on the chopping block.

Our goal is to have RPOF and all the county Republican Executive Committees become the foundation for a new grassroots effort. We want the RPOF to represent the views of party members, not the corporate interests that buy influence. If we don't reform, the RPOF will cease listening to its membership all together. I for one, think that our liberty ideas will gain a huge following and we will eventually be successful in winning elections for grassroots candidates. But we must build a new RPOF that welcomes diversity rather than purges it.

Beneath The Mask Of The Republican Party

There is no other way to write this story than in the first person and as it happened. That is because the Republican Party of Florida wanted no written or videotaped record of the proceedings I am about to relay.

One July 13, 2009 Fedex delivered to me a document simple in nature yet chilling in effect. Ten days from that date I was to appear before the RPOF ‘Grievance Committee’ for certain offenses that in all likelihood would lead to my expulsion from the party.

In a long one paragraph statement my County Chairman, Mr. Lew Oliver, described certain offenses which he deemed bad enough to warrant removing me from the party I had been a member of since I had turned 18 (I am now north of 50;-). Technical note: I could still call myself a Republican, I just could not be part of the executive committee which steers the direction of the party; something I had been a part of for the last 2 years.

The first thing that struck me about this announcement was the sloppy nature in which it was written. Constant grammatical and spelling errors occurred throughout the citation. Mr. Oliver, despite holding the highest office of the party at the county level, had yet to either learn proper English or use a word processor.

In the very first sentence he states: “Mr. Egoroff (1) engaged in ‘dirty tricks’ in the fall election by cooperating to send out a primary endorsement mailer under the fake name ‘republican victory committee’ EVEN THOUGH MR. EGOROFF HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SPECIFICALLY WARNED BY RPOF COUNSEL NOT TO USE THE REPUBLICAN NAME WITHOUR PERMISSION.’ Note the lack of capitalization in Republican Victory Committee and the typo in ‘withour’. Mind you, this is an official notice from Mr. Oliver.

Without going into too much detail, I refute this by saying I was never warned by RPOF about this mailer. Secondly, both the Florida Division of Elections and the Orange County Supervisor of Elections were both contacted and said there would be no problem using that name. Thirdly, I am new to the technicalities of using the word Republican which is violated every day with no repercussions.

I had ten days to prepare for this important meeting. Fortunately, they named Doug Guetzloe, as my co-conspirator. Mr. Guetzloe has over 30 years of experience in fighting tax increases through his group Ax The Tax. He has also held many positions in the Orange County Republican Executive Committee (the official name of the organization we were both about to be booted from).

He recommended retaining legal counsel through attorney at law Fred O’Neil. Mr. O’Neil had represented Doug for many years and had even argued cases before the Florida Supreme Court. We began a fundraising appeal and Mr. O’Neil was retained.

We knew this was an uphill battle. The Grievance Committee was made up of State Chairman Jim Greer appointees. These people knew that Mr. Greer had dealt ruthlessly with opponents in the past, and undoubtedly knew what the desired outcome was. So much for having an unbiased jury!

On the day of the hearing Mr. O’Neil had suggested that we hire a court reporter to transcribe the event. We knew that if we wanted to appeal the likely negative outcome of this hearing we would want evidence of what happened that day. The RPOF lawyer said no go. This was a private hearing. No taping or transcribing.

This was a clever move on their part to cover their tracks lest one of the inquisitors, er, committee members display their bias or make any other mistake that would come back to haunt them.

Both Doug and myself had a couple of meetings with Mr. O’Neil but we can’t divulge much of the strategy because we are assuming that further legal proceedings will occur. Suffice it to say that RPOF has always maintained that it is a ‘private club’ and can do what it wants. Our premise is that America is essentially a two-party system and that both of these parties are recognized as statutory entities by the state of Florida. Their bylaws are even part of Florida Statutory Law—something that is not accorded to any other political party (check it out on the Florida Statutory Code 103).

I could go on about the juvenile behavior of one committee member who repeatedly badgered me with questions like, ‘Does Doug Guetzloe think for you? Does Doug Guetzloe tell you what to say? Does Doug Guetzloe order you around?’ Which were all questions machinegun fired at me. Each time I tried to answer the woman would shriek, “Just answer the question Mr. Egoroff!” This may be the way you talk to a child, but it is not a professional way to address a man who has successfully run his own business for 20 years.

I’ll just close with the following statement. The Republican Party of Florida needs to stop slamming the doors on people that have new ideas. The Republican Party of Florida needs to stop looking at membership like it’s joining an exclusive country club. In short, the Republican Party of Florida had better stop threatening and smearing new members or it will find itself the defendant in a civil liberties lawsuit that will shake it to the core.

P.S. I should add that this is part of a statewide purge with 10 people likely to be expelled in this round, and dozens of more 'grievances' sitting on Chairman Jim Greer's desk.

It is about time to layout what the Republican Party of Florida (and in my specific case, Orange County Republican Party) is doing against members that dare to speak out against Party big wigs.

On Thursday July 9 and 10 about a dozen people from around the state received Fedex envelopes demanding that we come the Gaylord Palms Hotel and Convention Center. The occasion was something called a statewide Republican Party of Florida Grievance Committee hearing. The dates are July 24 and 25. Whether you have a prior commitment or a work conflict the dates cannot be changed.

We are charged with various infractions of the membership. One John Stevens of Jacksonville was photographed wearing a Ron Paul button after the 2008 Presidential Primary was over. Another person had his emails to forums spied on and printed out of context. I was faulted for having a negative ‘tone’ (no examples, just that statement).

Even the chairman of the Brevard County Republican Executive Committee, Jason Steele is up for expulsion because he challenged State Chairman Jim Greer to stop interfering with the open Republican Primary system. Many other county chairman agree with Mr. Steele but won’t say so publicly for fear they will be expelled as well.

The Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida, Will Pitts, a long time Ron Paul supporter and active in other Republican campaigns is also up for removal. Mr. Pitts, owner of the large Jacksonville based construction company that bears his name, was newly elected to his position on a unanimous vote of the Florida RLC membership just a few months ago.

There are other stories as well. Doug Guetzloe who has been active in the Republican Party of Florida since he was 13 (he’s now north of 40;-), is accused of undermining the very Party that he has dedicated is life to serving. He’s also successfully sued to preserve civil liberties in the state of Florida and to save taxpayers billions through his organization Ax The Tax.

Ron Paul and Republican Liberty Caucus members in Pensacola, Fl. were accused of being ‘disruptive’ and are also up for expulsion.

What we see here is a statewide Party purge of anyone that disagrees with the leadership and publicly speaks out. Each person that is to appear is up for a FOUR YEAR expulsion from county and state Republican organizations.

The second disturbing trend is for some people to not stand on principle and say, “I will not abandon any supporter of Liberty that is being hounded out of the Party.’ Hard to believe that the challenge of Benjamin Franklin, ‘We shall all hang together or surely we will all hang separately’ needs to be issued again.

There is a lot more going on behind the scenes which I can’t divulge yet. I ask that everyone to realize that you may be next. Do not fear Chairman Greer or in my case Chairman Lew Oliver. I have stood up to these people and won; I even have a written letter of apology from Mr. Oliver after I threatened to sue him for libel. It cost me some lawyer fees, but I consider it to be one of the best investments I ever made.

P.S. I have also seen where Dr. Ron Paul has been invited to speak before the Republican Party of Florida with the Orange County Republican organization sponsoring the event. These arrangements were made before RPOF decided to purge Ron Paul supporters from the Party. This is a developing situation, please stay tuned.

Chairman Jim Greer Continues Strong-Arming Florida Republican Party

This evening Brevard County Republican Executive Committee Chairman Jason Steele was interviewed about Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer's attempts to shut down the 2010 Republican Party Primary process. Greer has been trying to shut out former House Speaker Marco Rubio from opposing Gov. Charlie Crist for in the US Senate race (link to broadcast below).

I wanted to add my comments as well, because this ominous trend of Republican brass attempting to intimidate candidates in primary elections holds tremendous challenges for us as Party grassroots activists. Greer contends that some primaries are just to expensive and distracting. Instead he wants to go ahead and pick for us the candidates that we should vote for.

The problem with this is that now, especially when the Party is trying to figure out if it wants a more moderate (some call it Democrat Lite) Republicanism or a more conservative brand, the decision is not going to be made by the Party members themselves. This is precisely what Primaries are supposed to solve. But Boss Greer has other intentions.

In this interview I was struck by the lack of any coherent or logical argument by Greer to support his position. His constant 'uh's' and superficial replies either show him to be unable to argue his position or else he just considers that his opinion is the only one that matters.

Unfortunately the interviewer did not ask the hard questions of exactly what voice do the Party members have in this system. We must challenge Greer and the rest of the Party bigwigs that they are not to strip us of our rights to have fair and open primaries.

I commend Chairman Steele for beginning a drive to get county chairman to pass resolutions against these tactics. But even more I think that we as Florida Republicans have just as much right and duty to make sure our voices are heard as well.

Chairman Greer also makes a 'misstatement' of fact in the interview. One was that no resources of the RPOF have been used to favor Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio. Actually the RPOF has utilized it's massive email lists to repeatedly trumpet Crist as the best choice for the US Senate. Not one email has gone out reminding members of Rubio's">Rubio's candidacy.

All It Takes Is YOU

Happy New Year! Florida Campaign For Liberty, is going to accomplish great things in 2009. You know why: Because YOU are part of it!

I’ve now been organizing and agitating in Orlando and around the state for nearly two years. The most important thing I’ve learned in all of this is: Just Show Up.

That’s where you come in. If you’ll just commit to giving just a couple of hours a month to political action, you and I will completely topple the bureaucratic structure.

Often I’ve made the assumption that we need hundreds, maybe even thousands of people come to an event to have an impact.

Take for instance our attempt to remove Lew Oliver from chairmanship of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee. I thought we needed a lot of people to do this. In reality we only needed about 100.

Now we have OCREC in a stalemate position. Oliver won his chairmanship but by the slimmest of margins 122-121. And he only won that by disqualifying many of our supporters. That fight continues with a lawsuit, parliamentary maneuvers, and calling of special meeting to annul the election.

Did we need people parading down Orange Avenue with media in tow? Nope. All we needed was a few people to make a spreadsheet of supporters. Then we needed a few more to make phone calls. Finally we had a tightly knit group of activists determined to make real change.

If we keep on at this pace, replicating and multiplying it, we will certainly win even bigger battles.

Don’t give up, guys. And don’t think that 2009 is just a kick back and relax year. Activists (we can even call ourselves rEVOLutionaries!) know that this is the time for strategy and building.

2010 elections are right around the corner. I am putting the finishing touches on a project that will take us to new heights.

I’ve also been having some very useful conversations with Adam Kokesh (the fiery patriot who has won the hearts of so many of us). We will be meeting together in Washington, D.C. in a week or so.

Strategy For Political Impact In 2009

What a year 2008 has been! I’ve learned much about politics and becoming involved to make a difference. With this article, I hope to inspire you to explore how to do more than just complain about politicians.

First, examine the system. I believe that like it or not (and I don’t) America is now a two party system. While I admire the stances of the Constitutional and Libertarian Party’s, I’ve knocked on enough doors to know that people only elect Republicans or Democrats.

Some may ask, ‘Why are you saying just go to the Republican Party?’ Because at various times and on various issues, the Republicans have espoused views most closely aligned with a Liberty movement. Democrats have rarely if ever accepted these views.

If you accept the above premise, I’ve got an easy way for you to start making an impact. Join your county Republican Executive Committee (REC). This little known entity is open to any registered Republican. It is the core building block of the state and national Republican Party.

I like REC’s for a number of reasons. First it gets you educated very quickly on local and state level elected offices. These offices rarely make it to the ‘radar screen’ of most people’s consciousness. That makes them ideal offices for us to either run for or gain influence on.

The next reason I like REC’s is because membership is so small. Here in Orange County, Fl. where I live, monthly meetings only garner about 50 or so attendees (I’ve spoken to people all over the US and their county REC’s have similar or SMALLER numbers). The rules for joining are something along the line of ‘come to three monthly meetings in a row and you’re in.’

Once you’ve got a few dozen people on the inside, then you are now the influencers on the direction and philosophy of the Republican ‘brand’. I’ll leave it to your imagination what you can do from here;-)

Now connect the dots. The county REC’s elect representatives to the State Republican Party. The State Republican Party elects two representatives to the Republican National Committee. All three of these create the Party Platform and select delegates to the Republican National Convention.

Today's News Convinces Me Now More Than Ever!

I've been following with much interest the intra-party battles to wrest control of the Republican Party away from the present failed liberal leadership. Any time you read a news report about the GOP, it invariably describes different factions within the Party vying to be elected to County, State, or Federal positions.

This is precisely what I predicted this summer when the Republican Primary process ended up picking a weak presidential nominee. Now more than ever we need to add our voices and voting rights to restoring the Republican Party as the standard bearer of the US Constitution.

Please, if you do only one thing, go to https://www.campaignforliberty.com/signup.php and sign up to be part of an organization that will in the months to come stand for liberty loving candidates!

Then consider carefully if Third Party activism has anywhere near the potential for dramatic change. In my not so humble opinion, the times have NEVER BEEN BETTER for us to gain a real foothold in our local County Republican Party, our state Republican Party, and ultimately the Republican National Committee.

Conversely, the November 2008 election proved once again that third parties are less than marginal. If every single third party vote was added together under one candidate/banner nationwide it would barely equal 1 percent of the vote.

If any election called out for an 'alternative' candidate, it was this one. Unfortunately, Americans seem dead set against casting their votes for any but a R or a D. And I'm well aware of the spoiler status of the Georgia and Minnesota Senate races. But these are truly rare examples and besides those candidates were not going to be elected. If anything those two races will remind voters that voting third party or independent is a waste of time.

There is another powerful reason to work within the Republican Party. These organizations are granted statutory status. That means they are guaranteed ballot access. Even more important, they really are the only organization that anyone who is not a socialist identifies with. In plain English, there are MILLIONS of people that vote Republican by their mere R being next to a candidates name.

If you think you can just sit around and HOPE that the Constitution Party or the Libertarian Party will gain strength, you are dreaming. Wake up to a dose of reality. Get involved with the Republican Party now by going to monthly county, state, and federal meetings. Or else stay home and watch a golden opportunity pass you by.

One July 13, 2009 Fedex delivered to me a document simple in nature yet chilling in effect. Ten days from that date I was to appear before the RPOF ‘Grievance Committee’ for certain offenses that in all likelihood would lead to my expulsion from the party.

In a long one paragraph statement my County Chairman, Mr. Lew Oliver, described certain offenses which he deemed bad enough to warrant removing me from the party I had been a member of since I had turned 18 (I am now north of 50;-). Technical note: I could still call myself a Republican, I just could not be part of the executive committee which steers the direction of the party; something I had been a part of for the last 2 years.

The first thing that struck me about this announcement was the sloppy nature in which it was written. Constant grammatical and spelling errors occurred throughout the citation. Mr. Oliver, despite holding the highest office of the party at the county level, had yet to either learn proper English or use a word processor.

In the very first sentence he states: “Mr. Egoroff (1) engaged in ‘dirty tricks’ in the fall election by cooperating to send out a primary endorsement mailer under the fake name ‘republican victory committee’ EVEN THOUGH MR. EGOROFF HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SPECIFICALLY WARNED BY RPOF COUNSEL NOT TO USE THE REPUBLICAN NAME WITHOUR PERMISSION.’ Note the lack of capitalization in Republican Victory Committee and the typo in ‘withour’. Mind you, this is an official notice from Mr. Oliver.

Without going into too much detail, I refute this by saying I was never warned by RPOF about this mailer. Secondly, both the Florida Division of Elections and the Orange County Supervisor of Elections were both contacted and said there would be no problem using that name. Thirdly, I am new to the technicalities of using the word Republican which is violated every day with no repercussions.

I had ten days to prepare for this important meeting. Fortunately, they named Doug Guetzloe, as my co-conspirator. Mr. Guetzloe has over 30 years of experience in fighting tax increases through his group Ax The Tax. He has also held many positions in the Orange County Republican Executive Committee (the official name of the organization we were both about to be booted from).

He recommended retaining legal counsel through attorney at law Fred O’Neil. Mr. O’Neil had represented Doug for many years and had even argued cases before the Florida Supreme Court. We began a fundraising appeal and Mr. O’Neil was retained.

We knew this was an uphill battle. The Grievance Committee was made up of State Chairman Jim Greer appointees. These people knew that Mr. Greer had dealt ruthlessly with opponents in the past, and undoubtedly knew what the desired outcome was. So much for having an unbiased jury!

On the day of the hearing Mr. O’Neil had suggested that we hire a court reporter to transcribe the event. We knew that if we wanted to appeal the likely negative outcome of this hearing we would want evidence of what happened that day. The RPOF lawyer said no go. This was a private hearing. No taping or transcribing.

This was a clever move on their part to cover their tracks lest one of the inquisitors, er, committee members display their bias or make any other mistake that would come back to haunt them.

Both Doug and myself had a couple of meetings with Mr. O’Neil but we can’t divulge much of the strategy because we are assuming that further legal proceedings will occur. Suffice it to say that RPOF has always maintained that it is a ‘private club’ and can do what it wants. Our premise is that America is essentially a two-party system and that both of these parties are recognized as statutory entities by the state of Florida. Their bylaws are even part of Florida Statutory Law—something that is not accorded to any other political party (check it out on the Florida Statutory Code 103).

I could go on about the juvenile behavior of one committee member who repeatedly badgered me with questions like, ‘Does Doug Guetzloe think for you? Does Doug Guetzloe tell you what to say? Does Doug Guetzloe order you around?’ Which were all questions machinegun fired at me. Each time I tried to answer the woman would shriek, “Just answer the question Mr. Egoroff!” This may be the way you talk to a child, but it is not a professional way to address a man who has successfully run his own business for 20 years.

I’ll just close with the following statement. The Republican Party of Florida needs to stop slamming the doors on people that have new ideas. The Republican Party of Florida needs to stop looking at membership like it’s joining an exclusive country club. In short, the Republican Party of Florida had better stop threatening and smearing new members or it will find itself the defendant in a civil liberties lawsuit that will shake it to the core.

P.S. I should add that this is part of a statewide purge with 10 people likely to be expelled in this round, and dozens of more 'grievances' sitting on Chairman Jim Greer's desk.

The following is a verbatim copy of my summons from the Republican Party of Florida. I use the abbreviation sic to denote misspellings and typo's. It was written by Lew Oliver who is the Orange County Republican Executive Committee Chairman. I think it is fair to say that Mr. Oliver dislikes me and fears the number of supporters that share the belief that his 20 year reign over the county Republican organization should end.

"I would like to file grievances against both for matters relating to the 2008 election cycle and recent events as follows:

Mr. Egoroff: (1) engaged in "dirty tricks" in the fall election by cooperating to send out a primary endorsement mailer under the fake name "republican victory committee" (Republican should have been capitalized) EVEN THOUGH MR. EGOROFF HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SPECIFICALLY WARNED BY RPOF COUNSEL NOT TO USE THE REPUBLICAN NAME WITHOUR (sic) PERMISSION. (2) in that same flier endorsed a democrat (sic) judicial candidates thus linking the republican (sic) name to democrats (3)invited OREC applicants who did not timely file loyalty oaths to the Dec, 2008 OCREC election meeting telling them that they could be seated or else to harass me AFTER HAVING BEEN TOLD NOT TO AND THAT THE MEETING WAS PRIVATE (4) has repeatedly told lies about these applicants including the lie that that I did not tell them about the oath requirement even though Mr. Egoroff himself personally obtained their oaths well before the deadline. (5) has engaged in repeated and nasty personal attacks and threats of lawsuits. (6) has expressed his secret desire and plan to take over the republican (sic) party on behalf of Ron Paul, (7) has misrepresented facts and lied repeatedly about event (sic) surrounding the lawsuit filed by Mr. Long in December. (8) has been exceptionally disruptive to OCREC, advising members not to cooperate with the leadership team, not to provide contact data to OCREC, not to attend OCREC meetings, etc. (9) Mr. Egoroff has been so disruptive even within the Ron Paul organization that he was eventually thrown out of that (sic) (10) has been removed from OCREC within the last 9 months for exceptionally disruptive activists (sic) (11) is wildly uncivil and vicious in his word and tones (sic), to the detriment of the reputation of the Republican party."

My answers to each charge:
(1) I had received no such instruction on this flier and received advise from the Supervisor of Elections and the Florida Division of Elections that they saw no problem with it. Besides this was a special 'minor' election which was specifically and legally exempt from all normal requirements and exemptions.

(2) Judicial races are nonpartisan so this charge is ludicrous.

(3) We had just received word days earlier that a Miami Circuit Court Judge had ruled that Ron Paul supporters just like ours should be seated for their December Dade county meeting.

(4) I have never made that statement. Although Mr. Oliver's silence on the Loyalty Oath requirement for a month previous to the qualifying period is/was quite telling.

(5) Personal and nasty attacks?? Like the ones that I sued him for libel and slander over, (which by the way he apologized for and retracted via a certified letter that I received).

(6) I have many secret desires, taking over OCREC rates quite low on the list;-) Besides I did not make any 'secret' about my intentions to vote him out of office!

(7) This is really a lawsuit that is still ongoing, so I'll not comment.

(8) Another ridiculous statement. I encouraged people to sign up!

(9) A long ago incident that I don't wish to bring up and have settled with the Ron Paul state organization. It has nothing to do with OCREC.

(10) a) I was thrown out in a rigged and hostile closed party election b) I won my seat back in a fair election run by the Orange County Supervisor of Elections.

(11) I occasionally wrote satire about Lew Oliver (like the Emperor Has No Clothes) but never was disruptive in any official meetings.

Why I'm Pushing The Draft Florida Senator Paula Dockery For Governor Movement

Thanks for taking a few minutes to read this.

Many of us have looked long and hard for how we can change the course of the wretched path of politics that this country is on. We have searched long and hard for good candidates that match up with our new found understanding of what this country should stand for but all to often doesn’t.

Right now I’m involved with a grassroots effort to draft a reluctant candidate to run for Governor of Florida. Her name is Paula Dockery and she is currently a State Senator representing the Lakeland area.

Many people may not understand the importance of the governorship. It represents the executive branch of state level government. And just like the President of the United States, the Florida Governor really has no equal when it comes to legislative power.

With a single stroke of the pen legislation can be blocked. Because the concentrated bureaucracy of state officials only answers to the governor, he or she has incredible power. The person that occupies the governor’s mansion will directly affect Floridian’s lives for the next four years.

Right now the Republican Party of Florida is seeking to stifle the Primary process and dictate that Bill McCollum will be our nominee.

Because of the immense challenge of running a statewide campaign they think no one will dare to challenge that edict. Fortunately Senator Paula Dockery has left open the door to a grassroots draft of her candidacy.

Doug Guetzloe and I were first impressed by her masterful handling of powerful special interests; a huge array of paid lobbyists; and dozens of senior level legislators. All were amassed to try and swindle billions of Florida taxpayer dollars to private real estate developers and CSX Railroad.

It was billed as Commuter Rail for Central Florida. But once Paula requested more detailed reports of what was really behind this boondoggle, she realized that she alone might be the only person standing between backroom deals and responsible spending of our money.

I could go on in detail explaining how high federal government officials, sitting congressmen, and other bureaucrats threatened her with retaliation if she didn’t back down. Things even got so heated between Cong. Adam Putnam, Cong. John Mica and herself that Mr. Putnam had to referee Mica waiving his finger at her telling her that ‘powerful forces have already drawn up the deals.’ She resisted, boldly standing up for us, the Florida residents that would be stuck with this money-losing venture.

If you want to know how her voting record looks after 12 years of various state level positions, go to www.dockery2010.com What you’ll find is a good reasonable conservative record: against unnecessary tax increases, for the right of the unborn child, and a genuine sensitivity for preserving Florida’s natural environment.

All too often we only look at the federal level of government as the cure all. But as many of us have discovered that the US Constitution actually envisioned the separate and equal states should be the real seats of power. Again this shows the importance of the governorship.

I’m asking you, with all the credibility and integrity that I have, to help Draft Paula Dockery for Governor. As mentioned earlier Paula is definitely open to this idea. She feels strongly that she is capable of serving her state in this capacity, yet she did not seek this office. It is only through the efforts of you and I that we may yet have a choice.

Many of you know of my 18 months or more working with the Orlando Ron Paul group. Through it all I accepted not one dime of pay for untold hours of volunteerism. And neither Doug, nor I are receiving any pay for this effort as well. Heath Whitaker has donated hours of work to create the website mentioned above.

What drives us to do this when most people have little knowledge of Ms. Dockery or understanding of the magnitude of the governor’s race? Simply a clear understanding of how politics works and the rarity of launching a people’s choice candidate.

One more thing; this is not some idealistic race where the candidate has no real chance of winning. Ms. Dockery has been blessed with many good years of public life and the financial means to begin running. She only needs us to join with her to increase her chances. Our reward? Oh, probably a few more hours given over to politics. But then that’s what we’re in this thing for right?? But you won’t be alone. Florida State Sovereignty/Profound Implications

Just imagine what enacting the 10th Amendment could do for our state.

We could see a rise in manufacturing of heretofore restricted items. Guns, if they weren't sold outside of our state boarders, would invite manufacturers. We could absolve the corporations from the frivolous lawsuits by declaring that it is the owner's responsibility for what he does. Reducing registration requirements could also be examined.

We could also write our own social laws. For instance if we didn't want abortions to be legal in our state we would have the right to outlaw them. Or if the majority of people wanted to allow or disallow same sex marriage we could do that as well.

State Sovereignty brings all decision making closer to the people. This is a good thing which is precisely what the Founding Fathers wanted. One state can have looser social standards and another could be more conservative.

Please spread word of this group to your Florida friends. Ultimately if the people want something badly enough, they usually get it IF they are both persistent AND vocal about it.

I'm pleased to announce that we now have several Florida state legislators that have said YES to introducing a state sovereignty bill into the 2010 legislative session.

Now our work begins. We are assembling folders of material that we will provide to you. Then when you go to visit your individual representatives for your district, you'll look professional!

We are also creating a 'PAC' so that we can collect donations for hiring of a professional lobbyist and other incidental costs. Possible renting of buses to get our volunteers to Tallahassee during the 9 week session is also on the board.

Disturbing News From The Republican Party Of Florida!

We are all excited about the new Florida State Sovereignty legislation headed to Tallahassee in 2010. Several Republican State House Representatives have come together to propel this legislation forward.

What is so disturbing is that the same Party that puts forth this legislation, is engaging in some of the worst tyrannical maneuvers imaginable. Over a dozen Republican Party activists (me included) received via Fedex summons to appear in Orlando in two weeks. We were informed that 'grievances' had been filed against us.

Charges include such ludicrous infractions as 'having a negative tone' to 'using the Republican name without permission.' Another 'serious' violation was to be photographed wearing a Ron Paul for President button after the 2008 primary was over. I'm not making this stuff up!

Through back channels we learned that Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer had started a statewide purge of ANYONE that dared to question his authority or not to support the candidates that he had selected EVEN BEFORE ANY PRIMARY! Especially serious was to support US Senate candidate Marco Rubio.

Those that had been put on the list to be expelled ran the gamut of long time members (even including a County Chairman) to newer members that had proven invaluable to various campaigns.

Chairman Jim Greer Continues Strong-Arming Florida Republican Party

This evening Brevard County Republican Executive Committee Chairman Jason Steele was interviewed about Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer's attempts to shut down the 2010 Republican Party Primary process. Greer has been trying to shut out former House Speaker Marco Rubio from opposing Gov. Charlie Crist for in the US Senate race (link to broadcast below).

I wanted to add my comments as well, because this ominous trend of Republican brass attempting to intimidate candidates in primary elections holds tremendous challenges for us as Party grassroots activists. Greer contends that some primaries are just to expensive and distracting. Instead he wants to go ahead and pick for us the candidates that we should vote for.

The problem with this is that now, especially when the Party is trying to figure out if it wants a more moderate (some call it Democrat Lite) Republicanism or a more conservative brand, the decision is not going to be made by the Party members themselves. This is precisely what Primaries are supposed to solve. But Boss Greer has other intentions.

In this interview I was struck by the lack of any coherent or logical argument by Greer to support his position. His constant 'uh's' and superficial replies either show him to be unable to argue his position or else he just considers that his opinion is the only one that matters.

Unfortunately the interviewer did not ask the hard questions of exactly what voice do the Party members have in this system. We must challenge Greer and the rest of the Party bigwigs that they are not to strip us of our rights to have fair and open primaries.

I commend Chairman Steele for beginning a drive to get county chairman to pass resolutions against these tactics. But even more I think that we as Florida Republicans have just as much right and duty to make sure our voices are heard as well.

Chairman Greer also makes a 'misstatement' of fact in the interview. One was that no resources of the RPOF have been used to favor Charlie Crist over Marco Rubio. Actually the RPOF has utilized it's massive email lists to repeatedly trumpet Crist as the best choice for the US Senate. Not one email has gone out reminding members of Rubio's candidacy.

Congratutlations Lew Oliver! You Once Again Showed Your True Colors!

After canceling our regular April Orange County Republican Executive Committee meeting, Lew Oliver demonstrated how he is able to win elections and keep power even with insurmountable odds. First, change the meeting date and location to the outermost end of Orange County. I expect his plan was to confuse and discourage attendance. But our coalition of disenfranchised Republicans showed how much they wanted to restore the Party.

The second piece of skulduggery came by way of not calling a quorum when one was clearly present. We have multiple witnesses that saw Jonathan Swift (an executive of the Party) acknowledge that we did indeed have the requisite number of members present to do business. The problem was that if Oliver called a quorum with so many opponents present, we might be able to bring a vote of 'no confidence' against his shenanigans.

To thwart this outcome OCREC brass engaged a highly unethical procedure. Quickly Jonathan Swift instructed a dozen or so Oliver stalwarts to leave the meeting immediately, dropping attendance below the quorum requirement. This maneuver is forbidden even by OCREC's Model Constitution so we may file a formal complaint with the Republican Party of Florida.

More questionable actions by Oliver were exposed when Doug Guetzloe started asking questions about large undocumented checks. It was determined that Lew Oliver drew more than $13,000 out of OCREC coffers on the pretense of them being 'office expenses'. When pressed in the public meeting, Oliver sheepishly admitted that they were not office expenses at all but transfers of cash from various accounts. Readers should bear in mind that some of these 'transfers' were from OCREC's Federal Campaign funds which carry very strict disclosure requirements. Filing false campaign expenditure reports is a felony and punishable by fines, jail time or both. An investigation is continuing.

Our first guest was State House Representative Brian Nelson. He purports himself to be a Republican, and started begging a stunned OCREC audience to 'support commuter rail because there's going to be a station built right here in Apopka'. He followed that outrageous affront to Republican sensibilities, with the equally outrageous claim that there was no more money to be cut from the Florida 2009/2010 budget.

His question/answer period was the kind usually reserved for tax and spend liberals. This reporter stood up and asked, 'How can you support commuter rail and growth in government without walking away from core beliefs of the Republican Party.' Nelson's answer was a hodgepodge of 'nothing else can be done'. Then a second and third question came about the reckless spending of Tallahassee. By now the crowd was hooting and clapping each time someone challenged Nelson to defend his positions. Unfortunately there were no Democrats available to cheer Nelson.

Funniest line of the night was when one respected member of OCREC told us that commuter rail in South Florida lost so much money that taxpayers would have been better off hiring Rolls Royce's complete with chauffeurs to drive individual riders around.

Senator Mel Martinez sent a legislative aide as well to sing the praises of his 'boss'. He actually ended every statement with, 'well that's what the BOSS says.' After a while this metaphor seemed more apt, especially after another OCREC member was visibly upset with Mr. Martinez not listening to constituents complaints and voting for bills that were clearly out of sink with the majority. I was just about to yell, "Tell the BOSS that the peasants back home are getting restless," when he beat a hasty retreat.

With that Oliver quickly gaveled the meeting to a close. Textbook lesson on what's wrong with OCREC and why we must never stop fighting for our Party. Very soon the jig will be up for Oliver and we will finally win one for lower taxes, limited government, and personal freedom.

The Revolution Has Started! Did You Miss It??

We have witnessed something truly phenomenal here in Orlando. On Saturday between 5000 and 6000 people assembled at Lake Eola Park for the biggest Tea Party in the USA. The City Park Service and police have said they've never seen anything like it. Now for the story behind the story...

This was a rather peculiar event with the particulars giving all of us in the LIBERTY movement ample lessons to learn and repeat. They start with having someone in the local community feed off an event, in this case the legendary Rick Santelli Tea Party Rant (google it if you haven't seen it). This one local person in turn got the ear of a very popular talk show host, Bud Hedinger.

Bud decided to start urging his listeners to get involved. This led to more collaborations with various groups, which in turn... you get the picture at this point, right?? End result was a HUGE turnout of people that broke all previous records for Tea Party's so far. Has anyone called the Guinness Book of World Records?

The lesson that we can all take home and study is that it is not just ONE group that can lead a large movement. Indeed it is only through various groups putting aside their differences that we create something much bigger than what we separately could ever accomplish on our own.

I know that for myself I have those favorite one or two issues that I think are the key to unlocking the current mess. But you know what, that key only unlocks ONE room and it will never be large enough to accommodate the crowd of people we'll need to change the political landscape.

Hopefully we will all now see how important each cause, each group, and each individual person is to victory. Enjoy your new found friends and fellow patriots. You'll need them in the days ahead.

Sunny Skies Cast Shadows Over OCREC Member Deon Long

Weather could not be better for Saturday's Tea Party protest rally at Lake Eola. At 12noon the amphitheater will fill with thousands of patriots staging a peaceful revolt against the powers that be: namely our elected officials that with bailouts and stimulus money are ruining our economy. Come early as the rally starts promptly and ends at 2:30pm.

But just a couple of short hours later the Republican Party of Florida will convene the star chamber (also called the RPOF Grievance Committee) for a trial of Deon Long. Mr. Long has been a consistent supporter of the Republican causes as both the leader of the Black Republican Caucus and fundraiser for the RPOF. Appointed to positions by former Gov. Jeb Bush and serving with distinction as a spokesman for the Party, he has cut an impressive image of minority growth within RPOF.

Unfortunately Deon Long has incurred the wrath of Orange County Republican Chairman Lew Oliver and state RPOF Chairman Jim Greer. After daring to question the questionable practices of Chairman Oliver in last December's Board election, Chairman Greer was called into staunch opposition to Chairman Oliver. Thus the smear campaign of Long began replete with unproven allegations of financial misconduct and lack of loyalty to the Party.

The hearing of this case will take place in Lake Mary, Fl. Deon will not be the only one hauled up before this august body. Several other long time Party members from around the state will face similar charges of 'disloyalty.' A busy day for grievances to be sure.

Usually emails of this type end with some call to action. Sadly this does not appear to be necessary. According to my inside sources, the verdict has already been arrived at. If Mr. Long and others are to be hounded from the Party for merely questioning authority, think of what will happen in the future!

Blame Game Continues At Orange County Republican Party Meeting

Controversial Chairman Lew Oliver again presided over an ever smaller meeting of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee at the Mark Street Senior Center. Attendance at last nights meeting was about 70 people, half of which were supporters of Deon Long who asserts that he, not Oliver, is the real leader of the local Party.

Mr. Long has been presiding over "Special Emergency" Meetings called by disaffected OCREC members at the Winter Park Civic Center. These meetings routinely have over 100 people in attendance. What is all the more remarkable is that Oliver continues to harass Deon's meetings with endless threats of illegality and warning precinct members not to attend. In spite of all that, people continue to put their support behind Long.

The contrast between the two meetings could not be more clear. The group at the civic center is excited and each person that wants to speak is given a chance to be heard. Plans are put forth for growth of the Republican Party and freely debated. Oliver carefully choreographs his meeting and drones on about minutiae never allowing for new business to be considered.

Last night at the Mark Street Center was a perfect example. For the first time in any ones memory State Committeeman Jerry Braley finally gave a report to those in attendance. Usually he defers to his counterpart, Nancy Paterson, to relay tidbits of state party information. This time however Mr. Braley unloaded on Deon Long. He read a letter sent by State Party Chairman Jim Greer, which Long asserts is untrue and one sided. Braley heaped more scorn on Long, saying he wants to tear the Party apart aided by a liberal media.

Mr. Braley made no mention of the altercation that occurred two weeks ago at Long's meeting when police had to be called. A paid operative of RPOF/OCREC was sent to video tape the meeting and later became abusive. Police were called and issued a 'no trespassing' violation to Robert Richmond who is alleged to have made derogatory racial insults to Long (who is an African-American lawyer).

It appears to this writer that the real question is 'who has the real following at OCREC.' Mr.Oliver cannot get but a few of his supporters to show up to small meetings that never seem to go anywhere, while Mr. Long seems to enjoy enthusiastic support of hundreds of people. This is a troubling question that will have to be answered. Unfortunately the old guard (which is an apt description for most of Oliver's aged supporters), seem determined to pursue a caustic and negative campaign against Deon Long and his supporters.

Further proof of what is really happening can be seen by tracing the lineage of the leadership of OCREC. While Mr. Oliver has been Chairman for many years, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Oliver gained his position after the previously mentioned Jerry Braley gave it too him after HIS years of leadership. We now have a picture of OCREC leadership that is more likened to a kingly coronation being passed from father to son, than a free and open civic body. Oh well, maybe someday the peasants will rise up with pitchforks in hand and cast the baron and his princes into the moat!

Local Republican Party In Disarray

Last night, we as supporters of Deon Long (embattled opponent of Orange County Republican Executive Committee chairman Lew Oliver) gathered again for a legally called meeting of OCREC. Our venue was the Winter Park Civic Center for which Mr. Long generously donated the rental charges.

Having met the requirements for calling the meeting we proceeded to conduct business at hand. Tops on our list was to reinstate the 19 members that Lew Oliver expelled and barred from voting at the December 2008 OCREC Board election meeting. These disbarred members had met all the requirements mandated for voting status by the Orange County Supervisor of Elections. Yet Lew Oliver knew that should they be ceded their voting rights, they would most likely vote against him continuing as OCREC Chairman. So in order to preserve his chairmanship, Oliver refused to allow them to vote.

What Oliver didn't count on was, even with this underhanded trickery, his chairmanship was still very much in doubt. Final vote tally at the December meeting was 122 for Lew Oliver, 121 for Deon Long. Compounding this was the fact that 2 of the votes cast were 'for none of the above.' According to Roberts Rules of Order this should have prompted a second round of balloting. Oliver would not hear of it, and instead grabbed the proverbial 'crown' and placed it on his own head and called the election over.

We disputed this twisted process for some time by having separate meetings at the Winter Park Civic Center. It now appears that Lew Oliver and the the Republican Party of Florida are going to resort to more strong arm tactics. For the last two special meetings, Robert Richmond (a representative of RPOF) has been barging into our gatherings trying to disrupt them. At last month's meeting Mr. Richmond kept interrupting speakers with claims that we were having an 'illegal' meeting. He appeared again at last night's Winter Park Civic Center for our February meeting, this time toting a video camera.

After following people around before the meeting started, pointing the video camera at our members, I gently asked him to be respectful of our meeting and not to shout out statements while we were conducting business. He rudely told me that he could say anything he wanted and that he was there representing the RPOF. I reminded him that he was welcome to attend (we had sent notices to ALL OCREC members alerting them to this special meeting), but that he had to behave himself. I also reminded him that one of our supporters had tried to video tape the December OCREC meeting but was confronted by Lew Oliver's rented Orlando Police Department Officer and told that taping was not allowed. Richmond snorted "That was a different type of OCREC meeting. I'll tape whatever I want here." I decided that trying to reason with this guy was getting nowhere and that he seemed to enjoy picking fights.

We began our meeting and sure enough Richmond paced the room with his video camera zooming in on various people as they spoke. He then began to shout things and Doug Guetzloe (our parliamentarian and temporary chairman for conducting the meeting) ruled him out of order and 'not recognized' by the chair.

This was followed by more pacing and filming interspersed by loud cell phone calls Richmond would make RIGHT INSIDE OUR MEETING AREA. We all decided to ignore his boorish behavior and continue with our proceedings. Doug Guetzloe scanned the room and announced that we had met quorum requirements. We thereupon reopened the unfinished election of chairman and unanimously voted in Deon Long as our new chairman.

This was met by loud applause from the membership. Both Doug, Deon, Sef, and I all gave enthusiastic speeches about the future of the Orange County Republican Party. The atmosphere was one of celebration and anticipation of things to come. We dismissed and went on our way.

Unfortunately Deon Long stayed behind and tried to engage Mr. Richmond in a discussion on why the higher ups in the Party were hampering the growth of OCREC. Mr. Richmond by all accounts seemed to get more and more aggressive taunting Mr. Long as 'the worst example of a black Republican' and 'thinking that the Party owed him advantages.' Deon was surprised at this vitriolic language. Things got heated up after this and accounts vary on small details but the following events appear to have taken place.

Someone came running out into the parking lot yelling to Doug Guetzloe 'come back inside, the RPOF guy is might do something.' Doug rushed back inside to hear Richmond calling Mr. Long a 'n-----'. Doug and others tried to calm the situation but Richmond started either pushing or jabbing his finger into the chest's of both Guetzloe and Long. He also continued to make threats and racial slurs.

By this time the the Winter Park Civic Center attendant got concerned that a fight might breakout and called the Winter Park Police. Two squad cars appeared and they took statements from Richmond, Long, Guetzloe, and many other witnesses. A trespassing warning was issued and other charges are pending.

In closing this is a very sad commentary on the depths that Lew Oliver and others will stoop to in order to disparage our work. Remember also that Oliver is quoted in a recent Orlando Sentinel article as calling Deon Long and others 'Clowns and Losers'. This was in response to Deon Long having filed a lawsuit against OCREC over the rigged voting at the December OCREC elections.

This kind of childish and antagonistic behavior cannot be tolerated by the Republican Party. I urge everyone to call RPOF headquarters in Tallahassee ( 850.222.7920) and demand the removal of Robert Richmond from any official activities. RPOF Chairman Jim Greer asked for the resignation of another Party official for similar racial statements. If no action is taken we will appeal to our new national Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele (who is also African-American) for a swift and speedy resolution of this matter.

My Elected Office Is Bigger Than Your Elected Office!

If your email box is anything like mine, you get lots of requests for action. “Write your Senator!” “Help stop government waist!” You follow instructions and then the invariable disappointment. Occasionally a victory, but many more losses: and then the cycle begins again.

I’d like to suggest an alternative. Run for office yourself. I can hear the howls, ‘it costs too much…’ ‘I don’t have the time…’ and so forth. For the most part these are true.

But the name of this site is Science of Freedom, and you expect me to analyze politics to discover deeper meaning. Here’s my latest find.

Municipal elections. Again I can hear the grown, ‘Who cares about garbage collection and sewer treatment.’ But that is just the surface, let’s dig deeper.

First remember that old saying ‘all politics is local.’ Meaning that the bedrock of all organizing is done in smaller groups. These smaller groups should mold together to make larger edifices of political movement.

Running for mayor or city council should be viewed not for the job that you’ll have to do, but rather as your first baby step of building a political organization. You’ll be forced to do more than theorize, and instead concentrate on getting together lists of supporters.

You’ll no doubt think you can do that on any campaign; why waste time on such puny races. No one cares about them therefore they are inconsequential.

Not so grasshopper;-) You are a newbie in politics. You are starting your first days in class thinking you already know it all. Why mess with simple addition when I can just jump to calculus and save lots of time.

Back up. Learn to put two and three people together, give them a task and learn how to build a network. You’ll find that it is much more complicated than it would appear. Things like personality clashes and the true amount of time involved equals lots of mistakes.

Instead set aside your preconceived notions of what these so-called insignificant offices do. Concentrate on what these bureaucrats have accomplished. They’ve set themselves up in a small but powerful position.

Mr. Important Commissioner cannot only give thumbs up or down on a multi-million dollar public works project, he has something else under his thumb. People. He has to become a master at balancing thousands of constituent’s needs.

We would do well to study and practice these simple ‘equations’ of public thought and action BEFORE we decide to take on the sumo wrestlers of the political world.

Fortunately, our opponents in the municipal arena are not so good at their statecraft either. That is to say they make mistakes. Another vulnerability is that they play for relatively small audiences.

I now direct your attention away from the chalkboard towards an abstract building called the Supervisor of Elections office. Each county in the US has one. We’re going to learn some valuable lessons here.

Check out the numbers of voters in municipal races. I have and it is astounding. I live in one of the larger cities in America. It has 6 city commissioners. Most are elected by less then 2000 votes. Wow. To run for congress representing those same people requires 10,000 signatures just to get on the ballot.

How does the Commish accomplish this leverage? Simple, he/they collude to throw us all off balance by having the election on a day when no one is thinking of voting. We think of voting in November; MAYBE a major primary a couple of months earlier. The Commish goes one better. ‘Tell them only a couple of people will be on the ballot and it will happen month’s earlier than any major election. Brilliant.

Two can play this game. Why don’t you and I try our hand at one of these miniature elections? We’ll learn all sorts of useful lessons about keeping track of your supporters. And how much does it cost to run a campaign for 2000 votes. Plus we’ll see if we even have the time to run in the first place.

The most important lesson we will learn is not really a lesson at all. It’s why they say politics is local. When we run for municipal office we step away from theory and begin building long lasting political friendships. Our thoughts and dreams become structures made of telephone numbers and email addresses. If we build them strong and with the right bonds they will last long.

We then decide if we are happy with a one bedroom house (where we started), or a multi-family dwelling (analogous to State House), or if we are really ambitious a luxury 40 story condo on prime real estate (do I have to name the office here??).

So begin with the end in mind. Small regional elections are the point at which you become a serious student. Pay and the work ain’t so glamorous, but boy do they yield rich dividends later in (political) life.

Below you see this mornings email blast from CFL. I will respond point by point, but first let me state a couple of things for the record.

1). Mark Cross represented CFL and it's members in a very poor light when he endorsed Greer for Republican Party of Florida Chairman. You can my complete story about this at http://nickegorofforlandopoliticalactivist.blogspot.com/

2) John Tate knows little about this situation. He is doing the same thing bureaucrats do when they try and micromanage our country from Washington, D.C. Let Florida members vote on Florida issues. Hold an election NOW to decide if Mr. Cross is fit to continue his interim status as Florida Coordinator.Allow me to email out to membership my side of the story.

3). I have been afforded no opportunity to face my accuser President John Tate. I was never notified that I was removed as Orange County Coordinator. I was never told what rule of our organization's constitution I broke to bring on this action. The mere fact that I questioned the actions of leadership should not be enough to warrant such action.

4). The Florida CFL continues to suffer tremendous harm from Mark Cross's actions. The County and Congressional District Coordinators of Florida CFL took a vote. Sixty-six percent of them voted to impeach Mr. Cross. The remaining thirty-three percent voted to just reprimand him. I've received hundreds of emails and phone calls telling me that if Mark Cross is not removed people will either resign membership or never join.

This all reminds me very much of the strong disagreements of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Books have been written of their heated exchanges and charges against each other. In the end they reunited. Hopefully the same can happen again.

Now I will respond point by point to Mr. Tate's accusations. Please copy and paste this whole message to every group that you can.

Dear Campaign for Liberty Member,

The current state of our nation demands that we stand up and unite behind the timeless message of Liberty that made our country great. Along the way, we will be forced to make some tough decisions.

Recently, one of our members was confronted with such a decision. Mark Cross, former Ron Paul 2008 Florida State Coordinator and current Interim Campaign for Liberty Florida Coordinator, entered the race for Chairman of the Florida Republican Party, obtaining Dr. Paul's endorsement along the way. Of Mark, Dr. Paul said, "I know that he has the integrity, leadership, and resources that would ensure a successful term as Chairman."

Mark had put in a lot of hard work, but as election day approached, he realized that he didn't have the votes needed to win. Before the election, he had a chance to speak to Jim Greer, the current chairman who enjoyed an insurmountable lead, and Mr. Greer informed Mark that he would work to make sure that Ron Paul supporters were welcome in the Florida GOP in the future and allowed to fully participate. With this knowledge in hand, Mark made the decision to withdraw from the race and to support Greer's bid for the chairmanship in a bridge-building effort.

[What Tate doesn't mention is that Chairman Greer has repeatedly undertaken vicious attacks on RP supporters around the state. He changed the State Party bylaws to try and exclude RP membership in the County Republican organizations. Greer is known around the state as being a no-holds barred Party infighter that deals ruthlessly with opponents. RP supporters knew this as well which was why they stunned and repulsed at this decision by Cross.]

Mark's decision was controversial, but a tremendous possibility exists that it could open up new doors into the Florida GOP that have previously been closed to us. Greer publicly stated, on record, that Ron Paul supporters would be welcome, and Mark will do everything he can to hold him to that. No matter what happens, I am confident Mark acted with the best of intentions.

[Mark's intentions are also highly suspect here. There was a third candidate in the race Eric Miller (more about him in my blog noted above). It is Mr. Miller's contention that Mark Cross "double-crossed" him by cutting a deal with Greer. In return for Cross supporting Greer, Greer would see to it that a serious violation of ethics by Cross would be dropped.

Dissent is a God-given right cherished by every freedom-loving American. But, Campaign for Liberty also has the right to cooperate only with leaders who we know for certain we can fully trust. It is with this in mind that we made the difficult decision to remove Nick Egoroff as Interim Florida Orange County Campaign for Liberty Coordinator.

[Trust is important. But most of us know that to go on just emotional feelings is not prudent. The facts in this case are important. And they must be given a fair hearing in the court of public opinion. National CFL leadership insisted that this be hushed up. I was not going to be blackmailed into remaining quiet.]

Nick has many talents, but has also been a deeply divisive force, having previously tried to undermine and challenge Mark's authority several times dating back to the presidential campaign. After Mark's run for Florida GOP Chairman, Nick could have expressed concerns directly to Campaign for Liberty staff. Instead, he launched an attack against Mark in an attempt to unseat him. The attack was rude, personal, full of distortions and half-truths, and completely over the top.

[Yes I have many talents. I like to write and inspire about the Liberty Movement. That might be why I started and maintain a RP Meetup with over 400 members. That's also why I spearheaded an effort to take over our County Republican Party. Over 120 RP supporters went through the cumbersome process of sign up, attending meetings, and then nearly voting out the current neo-con leadership. The final vote was 122 to 121. We would have won, but the current chairman disqualified 18 of our members prior to the election--this is being fought in court right now. I've also been instrumental in pulling together all the most active RP organizers in Florida. We now have ongoing email and phone contact; something Mark Cross never did in his months and months of so-called leadership]

The National Campaign for Liberty staff tried hard to work with Nick and address his concerns, but to no avail. Instead, he took our email correspondences and phone calls with him and distorted them, twisted them, and in some cases simply made things up. All the while echoing our sentiments of mutual respect and promising to cease his attacks, Nick continued sending more disparaging messages. At the end of the day, we found that we could not trust him.

[Another misstatement of fact. When they say they tried to work with me, they should have said 'They told me over and over again that Mark Cross was going to stay and that was final. The fact that I kept people around the state informed of this on going process was viewed by President John Tate and others as untrustworthy. Sorry, I think we should have a free and wide-ranging discussion if CFL. If they don't like to be criticized for their actions, maybe they should consider another line of work.]

Finally, Nick offered his version of a "compromise." He would stop his attacks if we named him Assistant Florida State Coordinator and gave him full access to our lists. Unfortunately, this unveiled his true purpose behind the distraction and division - a personal power grab.

[What a whopper this one is! Yes I offered to try and help bandage up a terrible wound to Florida CFL. The damage was escalating around the state. Recently a member of a County Republican Party organization was deluged with accusations that RP people were not to be trusted... that they were traitors (and worse) because Mark Cross broke an agreement to support the second place finisher in a runoff election with Greer. The supporters of Eric Miller (again, see my blog, noted above), felt betrayed. This blunder by Cross is going to continue to have repercussions.

I was merely trying to head off a hemorrhaging situation by offering National HQ a face-saving option. Mark and I could agree on an honest differing of opinion. I would in turn try and heal the rift that is now tearing deeper in the Florida CFL. Again, being thousands of miles away from the situation National HQ circled the ranks to protect one of their own.]

The outside pressures we face are incredible, and we must avoid internal division whenever possible. Instead of working against each other, we must unite to fight the real enemy - the big government, interventionist, anti-Constitution philosophy that permeates our society. Our staff has tried its best to communicate with Nick and to work through this situation, but our efforts have ultimately been rejected and met with personal attacks. We have to move on and get back to the work at hand.

[I still extend the hand of friendship to National CFL on trying to address this situation. Call for an election of Florida CFL members. What ever is the wishes of membership, I will humbly accept. I think that is the proper course of action for President John Tate as well. What is not good is the autocratic leadership that has so far been displayed by them. I call on everyone who loves LIBERTY and wants a true liberty oriented organization to email John Tate at john.tate@campaignforliberty.com

Tell him to call an election now. Let Florida membership decide who runs their organization.

Tell him to stop playing favorites and protecting their own hand-picked candidates and tell them to reinstate me and the other Florida CFL Coordinator that were removed without cause.

Tell him to start openning up the lines of communication so that we can ALL work together.]

I am confident that our Florida supporters can put these events behind them, pull together, and emerge even stronger as we all work toward the goal of reclaiming our Republic.

Mark Cross Stuns Ron Paul Supporters With Sudden Support For Republican Party Chairman‏

Below is my news story on what transpired. I was trained in college as a journalist and to the best of my ability I'm going to write it as it might have appeared if the media had covered it.

Yesterday Mark Cross, Florida State Coordinator for Campaign For Liberty, surprised many supporters of Ron Paul with a sudden endorsement of Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Chairman Jim Greer. Greer had been locked in a contentious three way contest for another two year term of the Party.

Greer won the contest with a lopsided majority.

Cross said that he was not going to win the race so he decided to throw in with the current incumbent, "to better help the chances" of Ron Pauler's to be included in intra-party organizations. Cross later said that "he felt comfortable with his decision."

Cross pointed to "shaking Florida Governor Charlie Crist's hand" afterwords. "Lots of Republican Executive Committee members told me I had done the right thing, and invited me to come speak at their club meetings on how to get more Ron Paul people involved."

Nick Egoroff, Orange County Campaign For Liberty Organizer, had reservations. "Mark is taking a very dangerous course in suggesting that Ron Paul supporters would support Greer." Egoroff has had many run-ins with RPOF brass.

"I've talked with a half-dozen Campaign for Liberty leaders around the state of Florida and all were shocked and repulsed at the idea of supporting Greer. One said Greer stands for everything that is wrong with the Party. There is no way I can support that--it's a matter of principle."

Cross's announcement came at the end of a speech made on the floor of the Quarterly meeting of the RPOF. They were in the middle of nomination speeches when Cross's turn came to speak.

His speech centered on the positive aspects of Ron Paul's presidential campaign. The people involved in it "were kind of like a family," he said. "Each of us was free to help the campaign any way they could or wanted."

It was towards the end of the speech when Cross peeled off a lapel sticker that said 'Mark Cross--UNITY Candidate for Chairman.' "I think everyone got one of these on their chair today. And in the spirit of unity I wish to withdraw my name from nomination and instead give my support to Chairman Greer."

Egoroff said that the Ron Paul supporter he was sitting next to said, "What the f--- is that. Ron Paul would have never done that."

Also hurt by Cross's sudden change of mind was Eric Miller, another candidate seeking the chairman's position. According to Egoroff who knew both candidates, Miller was a traditional Ronald Reagan conservative.

The two candidates had worked together sharing advice and information on the race for months. Each had promised the other that should either be eliminated in early balloting they would endorse each other.

One person that saw the interaction between the two as both left the ballroom where balloting had taken place described it thus: "Eric (Miller) yelled out to Mark (Cross), 'they told me not to trust you, and now I know why."

Egoroff talked with Cross afterwords and asked why the sudden change of mind. "I knew I wasn't going to win and neither was Eric, so I tried to make the best of it."

Cross went on to explain that now he will have much more access to Greer and hopes to help end the factious fighting that has broken out across the state between Ron Paul supporters and the Party leadership.

Egoroff also reminded Cross of other 'gentleman's agreements' that had been made between RPOF officials and Ron Pauler's. All were broken to the detriment of the Ron Paul people who made them, said Egoroff. Cross answered, "We'll just have to wait and see."

Egoroff said that once Cross decided to give up, "We had the chance to stand with someone (Miller) that wanted to reform the RPOF. Eric had flatly stated that what the current state party leadership was doing was hurtful to Ron Paul Republicans."

"If Mark didn't want to run that's fine. Nobody pushed him into it. But it is questionable that he asked for donations and volunteers from Ron Paul people and got it, only to end up supporting the candidate that they were opposing."

Post Script. I'm very good friends with Mark Cross and know that this post will no doubt strain our friendship. I've worked with Mark for a year and a half on the Ron Paul campaign. We've had our differences over strategy and tactics. Never have I doubted Mark's support of liberty.

I wrote this in such a forthright way because the issues involved are so central to ones that we will have to face in the years ahead. They revolve around 'to what extent do we compromise and make alliances to grow the liberty movement.'

Media And Republican Party of Florida Decide To Crash Our Cause!

I was alerted by friends in different parts of Florida that we 'made the front page.' They were referring to the front page of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) web page. http://www.rpof.org/ Wow, not to often your efforts merit this kind of attention.

Then I checked further and found that The Orlando Sentinel also was interested. They had called me earlier for comment on the press release from RPOF State Chairman Jim Greer's office. Guys, we are having maximum impact. Lew Oliver probably had to change his drawers when he found out we had 94 OCREC members showed up to a meeting he forbid us to have. Don't give up now, victory is closer than ever before.

Proud Night For Republican Grassroots Activists

We again suffered a setback in our efforts to seat 17 duly elected Republican Precinct Committee Men And Women. The high powered and HIGHLY paid lawyers were looking for every technicality to thwart justice. In the end the judge gave Deon Long another 10 days to rectify our complaint.

Of course Republican Party of Florida State Chairman Jim Greer could hardly contain his glee. The words had barely left Judge Rodriguez's mouth, before Greer announced his joy. Why he is so proud of Republicans NOT being admitted into the Party, I'll never know.

But Deon Long promises to continue to fight the corporate interests that seek to keep grassroots activists out of the Party.

We then moved from the courtroom to the ballroom. Ninety-four supporters of fairness gathered in the Winter Park Civic Center to attempt to discuss Lew Oliver's illegal election in December.

Unfortunately, we were just shy of a quorum (40 percent of OCREC membership). The combination of Lew Oliver's hysterical rantings that we were holding an ILLEGAL meeting and ORDERING people not to attend, combined with the Gator / Oklahoma BCS Championship on TV hurt our efforts.

But this momentary setback did nothing to dampen the spirits of Republicans for fairness. Indeed, we decided to go ahead and sign ANOTHER petition right there on the spot to call another Special Meeting of OCREC. When this news gets to Oliver, expect more threats and disinformation.

Even more exciting was enthusiasm of so many people there. I tried to thank everyone who came, many of whom were not 'Ron Paul' types. Their comments over and over were a dismay at the pettiness of Lew Oliver. Many of these folks had known Oliver for years and said he continues to get worse the longer he stays in office.

Everyone was committed to staying with this effort to stop the tyrannical behavior of our chairman.

I myself was inspired to leave the suit and tie on that I had worn to court. I then proceeded to give a great speech about our success in staying focused. I reminded those gathered that continuing our fight to make our voices heard in OCREC was indeed progressing.

Our turnout tonight was more than OCREC ever gets at their normal meetings. Sticking together will force Oliver to loosen his grip.

Further proof of our strength is that OCREC and even RPOF fears what we are doing here. They're spending TENS of thousands of dollars on sharpie lawyers and then publishing press releases to the world that they supposedly SQUASHED us.

But our fight will continue no matter the odds.

And my special note to Lew Oliver: Keep looking over your shoulder. Republican Patriots are everywhere. We will oppose you whenever you seek to dictate to us what the Party stands for and what we can do as its members.

News Bulletin: Orlando Judge Schedules Hearing On Excluded Ron Paul Republicans

Our true chairman of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee, Deon Long, continues his courageous battle against cheater Lew Oliver who clings to power by a thread;-)

Today I tramped down to the belly of the beast; namely the Orange County Courthouse in downtown Orlando, Fl. It's an impressive structure around 30 story's high, with beautiful beige exterior.

Inside it's got the expected high security check in, and yours truly, your faithful Meetup leader and part-time reporter decided to go to the first day of hearings.

After riding the elevator up to the 19th floor and not seeing any activity (amazing that they can build such a colossus, yet have whole floors where not a soul can be found), I called Deon's secretary and was told that the meeting was in room 1101.011 (I'm not making this up, that's the actual room number).

Another ride on the supersonic elevator finally brought me to a suit-wearing individual of the legal profession. I meekly asked, "Sir, do you know where room 1101.011 would be?" He eyed me wearily, surmising from my casual attire that I was a nobody, and sniffed, "That will be on the 11th floor."

I walked down the hall and saw Chairman Lew Oliver, Vice-Chair Gary Phister, Office Manager Jonathan Swift, RPOF Field Director Heidi, PLUS three or four other lawyers hogging up all the chairs outside the meeting room.

Wow, incredible that our county Party has money to pay salaries for all these people to sit around in courthouses. Remember that Lew calls all the shots, so why they were needed is a mystery.

Once inside with the judge seated, he asked, "Who would like to go first?" Then he answered his own question with, "Let's have the plaintiff go first." No one argued.

Now I've watched enough TV legal dramas to know that 'plaintiff' meant us, so Deon takes a deep breath and before he can get five words out of his mouth... OCREC's lawyer interrupts with the usual 'Objection your Honor, Plaintiff doesn't have a case since he hasn't filed a complaint."

Readers, please understand that court cases are won and lost on technicalities. And OCREC has some of the best lawyers money can buy.

The lead lawyer was Dan Gerber, of the high powered firm Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell. These guys are the best at what they do. They give no quarter and expect none. I saw two large boxes of documents wheeled in and unceremoniously dumped on the floor. It hinted, "We'll keep you so tied up with paperwork, you'll wish you never took this case."

But Deon was undaunted. And so was the judge. Lew Oliver continued twitching his foot as if he had epilepsy.

This was because Deon had filed an injunction against OCREC for not letting some Precinct Committee Men and Women vote. His reasoning was that since a Miami/Dade judge had just heard the exact same case and sided with the plaintiff's (that's our side), this case need only show that we were suffering the same treatment.

Solution? Deon had to file a 'complaint' in other words he had to show that these voters were hurt in some way and therefore a suit was merited. This is really no big deal and Deon said he could have this done by the end of the day.

So to make a short story only somewhat longer the judge then went about trying to find a suitable time for us to all meet again to hear the case.

Gerber said he was kind of busy so we'd all have to wait for his schedule to clear. Deon countered that he was seeking 'Emergency Injunctive Relief.' I fumbled in my pocket for some Tums antacid tablets but found none.

"Your Honor, we have an important meeting tomorrow (Thursday), that I want these 17 people to be able to vote at," exclaimed Deon.

So the judge looks at the defense attorney Gerber and says, "He's right you know. Why can't you come back tomorrow for this case?" This is right because THEY were the ones trying to prolong the case.

The judge then asked what time this important meeting was. Gerber sheepishly said, "Well actually I have to be in the parking lot for a football game." The room erupted in laughter as everyone knew that the BCS Bowl Game top ranked Florida Gators and Oklahoma Sooners was what he was talking about.

After discussion it was finally agreed that Deon would submit his 'complaint' and Gerber would compromise his celebratory activities.

Key to that will be our Special Emergency meeting Thursday Jan. 8 at 7pm at the Winter Park Civic Center 1050 W Morse Blvd, Winter Park, FL 32789 This is primarily a meeting for VOTING members of OCREC. In other words if you were eligible to go the December 8th meeting you should attend this one. Additionally once the judge rules tomorrow on illegally barred Precinct Committee members they should attend as well.

Today History Was Made In The Republican Party!

Pretty audacious words, but I've never been one to mince words. I'll leave that to lesser men and women that do not share a RADICAL vision for this country and the Republican Party.

What I'm talking about is the debate that took place today. It consisted of the candidates for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee. I'll post the link below for CSPAN where you can watch the video archive. And I'll expect that by the time you read this, our YouTube videographers will have already sliced and diced the juiciest bits.

But I'll go ahead and give you the spoiler right now. All the candidates were falling all over themselves begging the Ron Paul supporters to stay in the Party. Not only that, but they were ALL trying to outdo themselves in showing they were the one candidate that was most friendly to us. I'm not making this up.

I nearly yelled hallelujah loud enough that my neighbors might have thought I was leading a church service in my living room. Finally RNC leadership is getting it through their thick skulls that the Ron Paul Army is a force to be reckoned with. We have been vindicated in the holy of hollies, the curtain that separates us from the inner sanctum of power has been torn in two. Can I get a witness? Can I have an AMEN!!

Now what is to be done? First off we will have the that usurper to the throne, that great pretender Lew Oliver's head on a platter (figuratively speaking, although for the damage he's done a good whipping is in order;-). Lew Oliver, the man that has lied and cheated his way through more OCREC races than you can count...Lew Oliver the man who has viciously smeared innocent Republicans whose only sin was to support the candidacy of fellow 10 term congressman Dr. Ron Paul (forget the Alamo...Remember the Green Smear sheet!)...Lew Oliver the man who disqualified over a dozen Precinct Committee Men and Women for such trivial things as 'not having the right precinct number written on the Loyalty Oath... Lew Oliver the man that was called a "lazy and unethical lawyer by the Seminole County Republican Executive Committee Chairman (quoted EXACTLY as it appeared in The Orlando Sentinel)...and last but not least Lew Oliver, the man that publicly slandered and libeled my good name. For which he only admitted it after I hired well-known Attorney Fred O'Neal who threatened him with a lawsuit and possible censure by the Florida Bar.

Yeah, I got a bone to pick with Oliver. This man has single-handedly destroyed the Orange County Republican Party. And for what? My answer is: So He Can Play Captain Queeg in The Caine Mutiny. And if you don't know what this means look it up on Wikipedia!

The numbers speak for themselves. During Oliver's tenure the number of registered Republican Party voters has dropped by TEN's of Thousands over a multi-year period.

Then when Oliver realized he had a revolt on his hands, he took another Hollywood part. That of the captain of the Titanic as she went down to a watery grave. Oliver's answer to these sinking numbers of Republican voters? Why he has the band strike up a tune as he orders the rearranging of deck chairs!

This man is a menace to the Party and he will only go if he is forcibly evicted. I expect to pry the OCREC meeting microphone out of his stone-clinched hand.

But I digress.

Tonight we heard from these Chairman wannabees that they are committed to building a grassroots machine that doesn't answer to Party bigwigs. They proclaim a bottom-up approach again and again saying that the Party begins at the COUNTY level.

They proclaimed that they will hold Republican candidates and elected officials' feet to the fire. We are the Party of Limited Government, Lower Taxes, and Personal Responsibility.

Now let me see...which presidential candidate said that? Was it the Right Honorable Senator from Arizona, our LOSING presidential candidate John McCain? NOPE! It was another candidate.

One who was laughed at, taunted, and yes vilified by so called leaders in our Party. The only man that knows HOW TO CURE APATHY. None other than 10 TERM Congressman RON PAUL. Someone who knows how to win DESPITE sometimes having to fight his own Party and their henchman that said he was TO RADICAL for their country club attitudes.

Oh sure, the RNC chairman candidates talk a good game. Now we're going to see how tender THEIR feet are.

Right now we are confronting Lying Lew Oliver on all fronts. Our noble candidate for chairman Deon Long was bushwhacked by Party cronies of Oliver. They smeared him and said he doesn't have the experience.

They were right. He doesn't have enough experience in the underhanded tactics that characterize Lew Oliver's administration.

But he does have experience as a lawyer. In fact he served legal papers on Oliver and Company that our Ron Paul supporters were illegally barred from voting in the December election. A circuit judge in Miami-Dade agreed. And I'll bet dollars to donuts that the Orange County Circuit judge is going to agree as well. We should have injunctive relief in a few days.

The second front that we've opened up in the war against Oliver is in a Special Meeting that will be held January 8. This is so we can challenge Lew Oliver to a fair election. If ALL Republicans had been allowed to vote, Loser Lew Oliver wouldn't have been able to cling to a 122-121 vote.

Instead it would have been a solid repudiation of Oliver's miserable failure as chairman. Then Deon Long would have stepped in, been a great conciliatory leader and brought our Party back together ready to defeat the collectivist/socialist forces of the Democrat Party.

I'll close by saying this. The future lies not with the failed policies of losing leaders, but with the bright hope of new leadership that is not afraid to embrace the core principles of the US Constitution. Win or lose we fight for the only thing worth sacrificing for. Our Forefathers 'promised us a Republic IF we can keep it.'

The Republican Party may at last be waking up. Let us not be found sleeping and slumbering as this new light dawns.

I've Been Thinking A Lot About Third Party's...

Oh, how tempting they are! I've been trying to be an activist in the Republican Party since catching Ron Paul Fever in the summer of 2007. Unfortunately my efforts have not always been viewed with favor by the Party elite.

So along comes this temptress called Third Party. Oh yeah, she's hot. Open to new ideas. Available and ready to do what ever I want her to do. She promises me she'll work hard to make the relationship last. And just as I lean forward to embrace her, POOF!

It was all in my imagination. I realized that that sweet young thing was just toying with my emotions. Time to go home to that not quite so attractive, but quite dependable woman that has been around for so many years.

This analogy is really what I think we are facing as supporters of Lady Liberty.

Sure we could go for a quick and fast hookup or we can determine that for better or for worse America is a two party affair. Mr. Republican and Mrs. Democrat are married and will be together till 'Death Do Us Part.'

Now for some plain talk. We must face reality and get to work on 2010 planning.

First we must find candidates to run for smaller, winnable races. I'm thinking that State House, State Senate, and other LOCAL offices are our best bet. Federal offices are bid up too high by corporate interests for us to realistically have any hope.

Here in Florida, I and a bunch of other HARDCORE activists are going to launch an organization to help
potential candidates make their decision easier. We're going to supply them with their yard signs, literature, provide them with a platform, and even help with the technical paperwork.

Even with lots of help the odds are, ahem, less than 50/50. But that's okay. Because we will be measuring success not by whether we win or lose but how we play the game (oh brother, another analogy).

We want to win of course. But each candidate that we help and support will be given a new paradigm. Instead of seeing how many doors you can knock or how many pieces of literature you can stuff into someone's hand, we will be emphasizing how many people did you meet that were at least open to a Liberty message? Did you get their name, address, and email contact info?

This way, come election day, win or lose, we will come away with a movement that is much bigger in numbers and with a longer term mission of waking up voters.

To make the numbers even more manageable, we are going to target the Republican Primary in 2010. Primaries remember have typically a 10-15 percent eligible Republican turnout. Therefore in Districts where we have a candidate, we may only need to get less than 5000 votes to win.

Compare that to US Congressional seats where you'd need at least 10,000 signatures to JUST TO GET ON THE BALLOT!

All It Takes Is YOU!

Happy New Year! Florida Campaign For Liberty, is going to accomplish great things in 2009. You know why: Because YOU are part of it!

I’ve now been organizing and agitating in Orlando and around the state for nearly two years. The most important thing I’ve learned in all of this is: Just Show Up.

That’s where you come in. If you’ll just commit to giving just a couple of hours a month to political action, you and I will completely topple the bureaucratic structure.

Often I’ve made the assumption that we need hundreds, maybe even thousands of people come to an event to have an impact.

Take for instance our attempt to remove Lew Oliver from chairmanship of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee. I thought we needed a lot of people to do this. In reality we only needed about 100.

Now we have OCREC in a stalemate position. Oliver won his chairmanship but by the slimmest of margins 122-121. And he only won that by disqualifying many of our supporters. That fight continues with a lawsuit, parliamentary maneuvers, and calling of special meeting to annul the election.

Did we need people parading down Orange Avenue with media in tow? Nope. All we needed was a few people to make a spreadsheet of supporters. Then we needed a few more to make phone calls. Finally we had a tightly knit group of activists determined to make real change.

If we keep on at this pace, replicating and multiplying it, we will certainly win even bigger battles.

Don’t give up, guys. And don’t think that 2009 is just a kick back and relax year. Activists (we can even call ourselves rEVOLutionaries!) know that this is the time for strategy and building.

2010 elections are right around the corner. I am putting the finishing touches on a project that will take us to new heights.

I’ve also been having some very useful conversations with Adam Kokesh (the fiery patriot who has won the hearts of so many of us). We will be meeting together in Washington, D.C. in a week or so.
